SLI Question

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the idea of SLI and I just had some questions.

1) To run SLI, you need two (or more if you want?) of the same graphics cards, right? they cant be different cards (just clarification)

2)(follow up)You could run SLI with say a EVGA 970 card and a Gigabyte 970 card, right?

2) Yes, as long as it's 970, take into account that both cards will run at the slower clock, so the Gigabyte that has a faster clock, will be underclocked.

This isn't true since one of my 770's do run slower by 40mhz and yet the fastest card still runs at its full speed.

1)yes they must be the same chip (two 970 will work but a 970 and 980 wont)

2) yes you can use different manufactures

Maybe it's because 40MHz is such a small difference. Because from what I've seen they underclock.

40mhz base difference and boost is around 70-80mhz  difference.

They don't underclock anymore. Asynchronous SLI is a thing since the middle of this year or so.
