fx 8350 does not like my msi 970 gaming motherboard

Thee is a power limit in the 970 chipset boards. I do t believe the 8350 is compatible but the 8350E should be.

Yea, I jumped the gun on that, as you said, surprising that a new AM3+ motherboard would be released, I just assumed, (and made an ass of myself) that he had an older MSI 970 motherboard.

 

It still costs $99 though... I don't get it, at that point just buy a 990FX.  But even then, you're approaching locked i5 territory price wise.  They got these guys hook, line, and sinker with the cores and ghz mumbo jumbo.

Lots of older AM3 boards were updated through BIOS to support AM3+.   You can still find plenty of them that will support FX today.

This covered what I mentioned a bit http://goo.gl/wVbQWi Basically with a 970 chipset your capped to a 95watt cpu. Im probably going to get the 8320E to upgrade from my Phenom II x4 965 since I only got a 970 chipset because that was all that was needed to use the 965 on a DDR3 platform. I might be wrong but thats likely what your running into.

support and effectively power are two very different things. The majority of motherboards on the AM3+ platform seem to have problems, which is why a mobo with at least 6+2 is required, and 8+2 is recommended.

Sorry you got sucked into the AMD scam, but that platform is dead, and it costs more money than Intel because you need high end motherboards with at least 6+2 VRM phase design for stock, and 8+2 for overclocking, PLUS aftermarket cooling.  Those processors are old, and very power hungry, they require proper motherboards to deliver consistent power to the processor, and that motherboard is not up to the task.

 

Right now, your best option is to buy a new motherboard, the least expensive being the Gigabyte 970 UD3P.  Or you can sell what you have and switch to Intel which will benefit you now and in the long run.

Seriously dude? That's just misleading information. The MSI 970 Gaming is 6+2 phase VRM. It's perfectly able to handle a 8350 at stock speeds.

that spread sheet is wrong, the msi 970 gaming is a 6+2 motherboard.

Its probably just your cpu underclocking when not under load.

Can you go into prime95 or something and make a screen of cpu-z temps while under load?

So i have an AMD FX 8350 on a MSI 970 gaming motherboard, and they don't seem to like each other. The cpu is running like half as good as it should be meaning it set my cores to run at 1400 mhz and the cpu volts to .912 ( i dont know if that what they are suppose to be but that seems kinda low to me). So my question is how can i get it to run normally like how can i get it to run at my stock cpu speed?

It's just power saving mode = 1400 mhz  + volts to .912
