I am going to do video editing, animation and gaming I was wondering if I should get a Ge-force card, Quadro, or both? I was going to get a GTX 970, I have an Intel Core i5-4690k and an ASUS Maximus VI Hero

Uh..... I don't know. I think a gtx 970 will handle animation, and video editing pretty well. And will defiantly handle gaming.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

NVIDIA Quadro cards are more optimised for video editing, 3D CAD work and 3D modelling, whereas the NVIDIA GTX series is more optimised for gaming. So, that's something to keep in mind. :)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

Yes, but if you wants to do gaming, AND video editing, and animation. I think a 970 will handle the animation, and video editing just fine. and defiantly handle gaming. Although if you go with a quadro card, it might be faster in video editing/animation. It isn't going to be the best for gaming. So rendering with a geforce might take a extra minute or two, but it will still handle it just fine.

It totally depends on what video editor one is using. Sony Vegas Pro doesn't seem to utilise the newest GTX series cards so well, from the GTX 600 series right up to the latest GTX 900 series. I don't think this is NVIDIA's fault though, Sony just needs to optimise SVP to work with the newest cards. At present a GTX 600 series - GTX 900 series card will only see a 30 - 40% utilisation in SVP, whereas from the GTX 500 series down you'll see 100% utilisation. I do hope Sony fix this at some point. :(

Don't get a Quadro.

Are you even at the level to require such things?

They use different drivers. So I don't see two in one system working that well.

Is a quadro like that going to help or not?

Personally i wouldn't waste the money on the quadro. It isn't going to do any better vs the 970. It is only going to do better if you want to do VERY precise mathamatical things, like calculating how much celium you need to put in a atomic bomb to clear a 5.98633333333333333333333333333333 area.

NO. If you dont have a 10bit monitor a K620 will add next to nothing when paired with a 970, it wouldnt be worth it.

Quados make sense in only two scenarios:

1) lots of video/photo editing where maximum color accuracy and reliability are most valued

2) CAD modeling and analysis, as the drivers are much better optimized for these applications.

I pretty much never recommend any Quadro under the K2200 level.

My engineering PC at work has a K4000 in it.

This.

You don't need a lower end quadro... those are pretty much as waste of money for most people. If you're at the point where you're needing the extra's quadro has to offer then your price bracket should show.
