Help for AFFORDABLE EK Loop

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

MSI what? GPU or afterburner?

And a waterblock will indeed help keep the temps down and in theory yield a higher result.

Both. If somebody buys the AMP! today, then I'm getting the gaming 4g. Then I'm gonna get an EK block for it at some point and overclock with afterburner.

I have a GTX 970 AMP! Extreme that's gonna be replaced by a Strix. I have a CM Nepton 280L and an i7 3820. I can put that on my secondary build. So, my case is an NZXT S340. I am looking to spend about $350. I need a pump, res., blocks, etc. that would properly cool my parts. I am looking to buy parts from EK. Thanks for any help, people. Also the radiator should be 240mm. Oh and the GPU will be part of the loop.

Why replace amp exreme by strix?

It seems to be the best but Zotac used cheap RAM that limits overclocking. This video does a good job of explaining and is the reason for me swapping it for an MSI 4G

Impossible. The Zotac card uses Samsung memory which is the greatest GDDR5 memory ever. There DDR3 stuff is absolutely fantastic as well.

Well the card could hardly overclock. Nothing near what I was expecting.

What where you wanting to hit?

1.5 ghz maybe 1.6 people claimed they got that in neweg reviews but that's total bs

Sounds like GPU Boost 2.0 being the complete dick it is. Clock it to 1450MHz core and let it boost as far as it can.

I set the boost to like 1700 but only got 1200 in game. Never works cause its a shit card

You're not going to get a 1700MHz boost clock without a Danger Den or a K|NGP|N cooling LN2 pot and lots of extra voltage.

I know but people were claiming outrageous clocks in then newegg review and no matter what the highest clock I got was like 1.4

'Annoying voltage limitations prevent you from unlocking the full potential of this card. To change voltage at all you have to run firestorm as admin, no other software will work because if the OC+ module. I was able to get my overclock to +350 memory and 1500mhz boost clock. Not to bad. But it is limited with the fact that Nvidia seems to have emposed power draw limitations on all of these 900 series cards, preventing extreme over clocking. It's quite a shame to have a card that stays so cool while under load not be able to run at it's full potential. This card is a beast just waiting to be unlocked by a BIOS update... But sadly none exists yet'

Taken from Newegg. Update the firestorm utility and use OC+ mode. You've nvidia to blame as usual for hampering the OC abailty.

I updated the software and stuff too. With the MSI I should have no problem and can go further when I slap a waterblock on it.
