so im gonna get rid of my 500GB black for a 2tb or 3tb drive. This drive will be used for:

  • Photo Storage
  • Video Storage ( large amount)
  • Used for streaming videos to I pad and i phones in the house.

So what drives gonna be the best for large amount of storage for a good price, hopefully Another WD drive please; if not please state reason for the drive

Every Seagate drive I've ever had has failed.  Never had a WD drive fail.  I'm with you on this one.  Got 10 WD drives right now.

Desktop: Intel Core i7-6700K, ASUS Z170-A, ASUS STRIX GTX 1080 Ti, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB Samsund 840 Pro, Seasonic X series 650W PSU, Fractal Design Define R4, 2x5TB HDD

Hypervisor 1: Intel Xeon E5-2630L, ASRock EPC612D8, 16GB DDR4 ECC RAM, Intel RT3WB080 8-port RAID controller plus expansion card, Norco RPC-4020 case, 20x2TB WD Red HDD

Other spare hypervisors: Dell Poweredge 2950, HP Proliant DL380 G5

Laptops: ThinkPads, lots of ThinkPads

Every Seagate drive I've ever had has failed.  Never had a WD drive fail.  I'm with you on this one.  Got 10 WD drives right now.

 

Being a computer technician at a local brick and mortar store, I've had every brand of hard drive fail in warranty, out of warranty, and ever less than a month after purchase by my customers.

Seagate, WD, Samsung, Hitachi, Toshiba, etc. (even though Seagate and WD are now the only 2 real manufacturer's since the Thailand flooding :D)

 

What I'm trying to stress here is that no matter what hard drive you purchase, backup anything you cannot bear to lose onto at least 2 other drives/cloud storage solutions.

Hi there @SparkySamZa!

 

From what you've described you need the drive for, I would suggest to take a look at the WD Green. It is specifically designed for storage purposes and comes with capacity up to 6 TB.

I recently got a WD red and its quieter than a Green, about the same speed ( a bit faster) and can operate 24/7, and is more reliable ( warranty and stuff ) than the green. I'd get a red imo which is perfectly fine for a pc use

I believe it was because these consumer drives were being used in enterprise type enclosures, they were not used in the exact same environment, and Linus did mention that real-world failure rates of even 3% would put a hard drive company out of business.

fair enough, tbh though im not going to have my computer one 24/7 cause then my energy bill will be over like £100 a month xD only downside to a workstation is the power usage
