I'll be building my first computer in the coming weeks, but I'm still confused over something about the Corsair H100i CPU cooler.

In every installation guide I find, they always install it on a motherboard already in the case. Since I'll be assembling everything from scratch, should I just skip the recommended "build it outside the case first and POST to see if everything is OK"? If I build it outside, the cooler radiator will get in the way when trying to place the motherboard into the case?

I hope I'm making sense.

You don't need to boot outside the case unless you do some major things like watercooling or modding.

Beware of him that is slow to anger; for when it is long coming, it is the stronger when it comes, and the longer kept. Abused patience turns to fury.

Put it on when it is in the case, it will be a hug pain putting the motherboard in with a big block of metal attached to it by tubes flopping around.

You can always use the stock heatsink to build outside, then remove it and install the H100i once inside the case.

Test the hardware with the stock cooler to begin with, then move it inside the case with the H100i :)

I have a strong dislike for stock coolers :/ I'd rather not touch that thing if I don't have to, but I suppose it's an option

It'll literally just be used to make sure everything POSTs, which will literally be like 10-15 mins :/ It won't harm the CPU, especially if you're just doing booting it for the first time
