Why does steam do this?

I have had steam for a few months and this has always been there

And I have tryed everything to fix it. is it a glitch or am i dumb or what?

It says new, but nothing is new at all ever. ive clicked on everything.

Does he mean the "NEW" tag? Yeah, that's there because it' a new feature. It doesn't designate new activity updates.

Its not a tag or anything its just ther, clicking on it does nothing

Come on, now...

 

It's just there to to show that it's a new feature. They added that tab several updates ago to the Steam client. And as said in a previous post, Valve's sense of time is different than ours.

Okay, you could have said, its a feature they havent fixed

They'll remove that text when they change the UI again or something.

 

Also, it doesn't need fixing since it's serving it's purpose.

What service is it providing? 

To show people that specific tab is/was a new feature. It's function was never to designate that there are new activity updates to the feed of that tab. Although that would be a good idea.

Not really, it would always show the NEW tag if there's new activities from all of your 250 friends... and I don't exactly care if they post a new screenshot or add friends lol

Instead of showing "NEW" it could show the number of updates. Like Facebook or here. And I bet there would be a setting to turn the indicator on/off.

Imo, the Steam client is due for a complete re-design. Looks like they're starting with user profiles though... Even though it does use the same color scheme. Eh.

Remember the old color scheme? That was horrible, rather have the one we have now than that. Though I'd like to choose the color scheme myself, the old one let you do that, can you do that anymore?

You can add custom made skins that can change just about the entire theme.

They added badges to it so its still kinda new.
