I see people on the forums commonly say they regret getting AMD cpus for their machines. Just saw someone's sig that said, "I REGRET BUYING MY 8320 EVERYDAY". Another thing I see commonly is people saying buying the latest cards like a 970/980 will experience bottleneck whenever someone mentions their AMD CPU. Lastly then there are lots of YouTubers like Jayztwocents among others who claim that AMD only suffers maybe a few less FPS in games and stuff.

Anyways this is all kinda confusing to me & I'm not trying to start a Intel vs AMD war I'm just really confused. Does AMD have higher end CPUs that compete with Intels? It seems all the AMD CPUs I've seen are like 150$ and less, not that paying less is a bad thing but you get what I mean.

Edit: Also title specifies gaming which is fine but I kinda mean in general here as well.

Current PC build: [CPU: Intel i7 8700k] [GPU: GTX 1070 Asus ROG Strix] [Ram: Corsair LPX 32GB 3000MHz] [Mobo: Asus Prime Z370-A] [SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB primary + Samsung 860 Evo 1TB secondary] [PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750w 80plus] [Monitors: Dual Dell Ultrasharp U2718Qs, 4k IPS] [Case: Fractal Design R5]

AMD's cpus are obsolete.

Does AMD have higher end CPUs that compete with Intels?

AMD pretty much stops at the 8320/8350 and doesn't have competition for cpus like the 4770k/5820k in terms of performance. AMD offers value at lower price points and is great for those who can use more threads but don't need something like a 4770k. .

Faster cores dominate for a good number of games since we're still in the early transition to better threaded games.

I don't regret getting my 5600k even if I did lose the silicon lottery...

What I do regret getting is the A55 mobo... I should've gone A88X...

Well, I've long advocated that you wont see a difference. you said people who say that are liars. you called me a liar. I don't like being called a liar. therefor, I told you to screw off.

You do see a difference, minimums of 91FPS vs 35FPS is pretty damned noticeable, Black Ops if you wondered.

Every single game I play I see a minimum of 45 fps so far, save BF4 (Never expected to with 4800x900 & a 7870xt) and Crysis with way too many graphical mods.

Have never stuttered either.

Obviously you must think it's still no different.

When i went from my Phenom II @ 4.0ghz to stock 2500k, i was fucking stunned.

i agree...but we start to see the change happening these days...here's a good example of this, dragon age inquisition is a game that can take advantage of 12 CPU threads if you happen to have them and from these results an overclocked FX chip

would get similar or better performance than a stock core i5-4670K

500x1000px-LL-cd9cd765_http--www.gamegpu

But yeah...not often do you see such results and 99% of the games out there will favor the core i5 and many of them in which the poor single-threaded performance of those FX cpu's is litteraly a deal breaker. :(

We're getting there.. eventually.  I think that was also the reason Linus suggested going with the fx 6300 for the gaming build guide. (Yeah I know--most of us had gripes with the part choices but that sort of applies to a lot of the recommended parts lists)

In the budget end, AMD makes sense, pairing a monster GPU with an FX is just silly unless you think low GPU usage is normal.

personaly i had more trouble with the G3258 choice...the FX-6300 is a good choice for a budget build IMHO...at least as long as the user is not a big MMO player...

Oh dam, if only we all played games at 1280 by 720! That benchmark is kind of an unrealistic situation... What's the differences in fps of say 1080p?
