750 for security

For security? On a system that will draw less than 300w? lol

Need good quality power supply for this build.

Intel Core i7-4790K

GIGABYTE Z97X-UD5H

Crucial 16GB KIT DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Ballistix Sport

Crucial MX100 512GB SSD

Western Digital Blue 1000GB 64MB cache

GIGABYTE N970G1 GAMING-4GD

This link http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine recommends about 455 W for that system, where I made the assumption you overclocked the 4790k to 4.5GHz on 1.3V vcore and have a few case fans. I'd go with something like this 550W 80+ Gold Seasonic if you want a modular PSU:

You probably want to go at least 650W though if you plan on adding a second 980 for SLI. In that case this 80+ Gold 750W Rosewill Capstone modular would be awesome:

You know bumping the the vcore to 1.3v will only mean that the cpu with draw 105-110w max right? It's on inconsequential difference. That along with a gpu that pulls 135w or whatever it is means that at most with other parts added in he really won't even come close to hitting 300w. He would have to max out the cpu and gpu at the same time just to have it push over 200. Which will never happen in a real world scenario. Any psu will work really. The g2 is way overkill even if he want's to go sli.

Can't go wrong there

If the much lower wattage seasonic options are available to you at a cheaper price you might want to save some money. But if you are aiming for a silent system not having a psu fan turn on helps.

Nice, yeah especially with power consumption going down, I plan to use this PSU for at least one more build.

Exactly, even if I switch to maxwell their is no setup I could make to even use all 750w. It's crazy where things are going. In ten years we will have systems that max out games at 5k and only draw 80w from the wall. lol

Yeah it's funny....I knew this would happen just because of progression, but I'll be one of those old timers talking bout "back in my day". Shit, our grandchildren won't even know what 1080p is let alone 480 or 240 LOL.

I don't know, if consoles are still around when our grandchildren are here they might know a think or two about 1080p xD
