Lol. Do you get what I mean though? Internet security companies aren't run by nice friendly guys, they're run by old business men who couldn't give a shit about your security. Just like ISP's, they just want your money, and they'll use dark alleyway tactics to get it.

I understand what you're saying, but again you post no evidence of what you're saying and in this case, have no basis for it. AV Comparatives is a reputable not-for-profit site...maybe you'd have qualms with their testing methods, but the results are solid.

Never used an av. Never clicked on "free ipad" links :P If you careful on where u go and what you download you dont need an antivirus.

Until you do. People don't need AVs for sites they know are trouble, but for those they assume are safe. There could be circumstances that lead to anyone who visits this forum tomorrow getting a virus. Are they likely? Definitely not. Is it impossible? No.

Never used anti-virus either, never got any virusses. although they are more common on windows, so would suggest MSE or better for any windows-guys.

Antivirus is like a lock on your door. You may live in a safe neighbourhood and you may not need it but if someone comes along you do not want in, you want a lock on your door. It is easier to keep someone out than it is to get them out, especially if they leave pieces of them behind.

Personally, I use ESET Smart Security 6, although it is a huge resource hog and consistently takes up 100 MB of RAM. This isn't too much of a problem for me, and I love ESET's level of control and detection rates. There are more settings than you could ever need, even for an advanced user like me. Another downside of ESET is that it is very expensive compared to other security suites. See the comparative chart in my signature for an easy but detailed comparison.

100MB isn't bad, depending on how much functionality it has when consuming that amount of RAM.

honestly all other security options are worthless. For windows 7 or vista, you get microsoft security essential. for windows 8, microsoft security essential is built into windows defender. So windows 8 users don't need 3rd party and windows 7 and before users just need microsoft security essentials you download from microsoft's wesite./

MSE needs to have its own update component. It's dumb that it updates through Windows Update.

Every time I went into Windows Update, there was a virus signature update. How long have you been using it for? They could've changed it.

If this was 2011/Early 2012, you might have a point. It's detection rate these days is much lower however.

I'm using Avast Free. More than happy, never had any problems with it and doesn't stress the system too much.

It'd just need to be the right virus. Nearly 10% of what's currently out there can fly right past MSE's "protection"...And as was clarified earlier, it's not just shady/adult sites you have to worry about.
