FX 8350 Running at 77.5 Degrees Celsius at Full Load. 4.5 GHz

xSkull
Go to solution Solved by William12h,

Lower voltage as much as you can (Turn auto voltage off if you can) untill it crashes at full load, if it is still above 65 but stable then lower the clock until so OR get a better CPU cooler

I have an fx 8350
Asus M5a99fx pro r2.0 mobo
Hyper 212 evo fan

I overclocked just today and at full load my cpu ran up to 77.5 degrees. Is this normal for 4.5 GHz or should I tone it down

you should tone it down a bit, AMD recommends a max of 62 degrees Celsius for these chips, i would not go over 65

Intel chips won't melt down running at 77c, AMD chips will.

@OP you should not run more than 62c for a 24/7 overclock on AMD CPU's.

I'm oc'd to 4.65 on my 8350 and under load it hasn't gotten above 50C, granted I have an insane cooler and great airflow. So I'd bring back that OC a little bit

I was getting these temps with a 8320 @ 4.3Ghz on stock voltage with a hyper 212 on a gigabyte 990XA-UD3. What voltage are you at?

The hyper 212 is a decent budget cooler but just doesn't do a good job of dissipating the heat from FX 8 cores. They are better suited for moderate overclocks on intel quad cores from my personal experience.

I am now at 1.4. I was at 1.43 before and now it's staying at around 65°C. I have to tone it down more again because it's only been 5 minutes into the test

Lower voltage as much as you can (Turn auto voltage off if you can) untill it crashes at full load, if it is still above 65 but stable then lower the clock until so OR get a better CPU cooler

Doing that right now. Thanks!

Unfortunately, AMD states nothing as to what the maximum temperature is on their website, which I find to be rather annoying and stupid. The generally accepted maximum temperature is around 65C. That's what I find at least when doing a Google search and looking at forums, including Tom's Hardware.

Thank you very much my friend! 4.5 ghz with a stable temperature of 50-60°C :D

55°C to be exact!
