Intel i7 4790k or AMD FX 8370?

Happy Holidays everyone! I was hoping someone could help me out, I'm a film student in college as well as an editor for a company and I need a PC that can handle lots of footage and that I can use for lots of editing in Adobe creative cloud. I will also be using this computer for online gaming with my friends and doing loads of homework for college. I just can't decide whether or not if I should go with Intel or AMD for my editing rig? Many thanks to all and have a safe and happy holiday season! :)

4790k.

Something like a 5820k would actually be very helpful if you're editing for a job since it will render it quite a bit faster.

Welcome to the forums!

I love my 8350 so I recommend getting an 8350 and a Dark Rock Pro 3. It's not as good as the i7 but  It's silent and is an editing beast, plus together the 2 items are just over $200 USD

My specs so far are:

Western Digital 1TB HDD

Seagate barracuda 2TB HDD

Samsung 120 gb 840 evo

Evga Gefoce GTX 970 superclocked ACX

Cooler master N600 mid tower case

Evga SuperNova 750w 80 plus gold

I still need my Processor, mobo, and RAM.

I was also thinking about the i7 5820k but thats only if I can afford the expensive x99 mobo and DDR4 RAM :P

Its not a good time to buy DDR4 ram, its expensive and will need some time to mature

I was looking at getting the Intel i7 4790k, Asus Z97-Pro mobo, and G.Skill 16GB 1866 RAM. Thanks for the help! if you have another mobo that's better or close to same specs for a cheaper price I'd appreciate it.

I'd love to get the 5820k but the mobo and DDR4 ram are just too much at this point and although it'll reduce my render times I just cant seem to make if fall into the my budget lol

I'd only go for the 8370 if the cost is an issue and you don't have time to save up but if it's not i7.

Both will get the job done but the i7 will get it done quicker.

Or if cost is issue, can save 50$ bucks and get a Xeon 1246, but no overclocking

Yeah that makes me a little sad but isn't the Xeon a 6 core processor? :)

Yeah a lot of people give it a good rep. I was looking at some other brands other than just Asus even though I love them I just wanted to know if anyody had some other reccomendations. I wanna see if there's a Z97 board that offers same performance if not better for a cheaper price.

I plan on getting an Asrock Z97 Extreme6, solid board, good reviews..as long as one ignores they used to put out some crap in the past

Gigabyte Z97x SLI or MSI Z97 G55 SLI are usually the cheapest boards around that support SLI.

core i3-4150 vs FX-8370 would have been a more fair contest...the i7 is no match for any AMD cpu's ATM.

In editing an 8370 will stomp all over an i3.
