If I get another 290, I would have to put it in the top PCIe slot in my motherboard. So the fans would be right up against the back of the other card. If I got one of the better coolers (like the sapphire tri-x/vapor x), would it stay cool and be quiet even though the fans don't really have any room?

You might want to get a ref card if they are going to be sandwiched together, as the top card can pull air from the front of the card.

Are you saying that a reference card would be better than something like a sapphire tri-x in that situation?

I have a corsair 350d, airflow could be better. There's just the fans that came with the case(big one in the front, a smaller one in the back... Not really sure about exact sizes..). I could add more fans though if it was necessary

If they're going to be sandwiched together, yes the reference cooler will be better for that.

Two open coolers would generally be better, but they don't like being squished up against eachother, so probably not. You really want some gap between them.

Sandwiched csrds right against eachother is a no go... My msi twin frozor overheated and throttled to 500 mhz within 2 mins

Swapping to a refernce blower required 65% fan speed to avoid throttling. Very loud...

With one pci slot between them it was much better but the bridgeless xdma over chipset based pcie3.0 x 4 caused micro stutter

kraken g10 is another option. Gelid sell a VRM heatsink for the 290 if yours don't have. I have both my 290's with G10's and H50's on them, and temps are hilariously low.

Is there space for that when the cards are sandwiched together though?

I have about an inch of wiggle room between the two cards, where the tubes come out from the pump. half inch at the vrm fan.

Very interesting, I had always assumed the space would be too little.

I could take a picture of mine, but it looks almost identical to this. as long as there are two slots between the cards. I just looked at an image of your motherboard, and now I know what you mean about the spacing being tight for pci-e, and looking at you case I guess there wouldn't be enough clearance anyway.

I was planning on getting a g10 for my xfx double dissipation 290 that I have now. It gets hot and loud... But I thought I would have to put it in the bottom slot because it is a 2 and a half slot cooler. I don't think I can get a second g10 for the top card. I have a gigabyte z97mx gaming 5 motherboard.

Do you have an atx motherboard though? I have a micro atx board and I don't think 2 g10s will fit

I think the problem is my motherboard though. Do you know if two g10s or corsair hg10s would fit on the gigabyte z97mx gaming 5

yeah atx. there is a pci-e x1 slot and a regular pci slot between the two pci-e x16 slots on mine that I use, probably why I have so much room.

As you can see there is a PCI 1 in-between the two x16's so it should work

198032.jpgOh okay. Unfortunately, I only have one slot in between where the gpus would go. I should've gotten an atx board with the define r4..the only reason I went with micro atx was because it was like $20 cheaper at the time. I didn't forsee this problem

But the g10 is 2.5 slots right? So wouldn't it cover up the pci1 and the PCIe x8 too?
