What should I upgrade? 

 

Currently I have:

 

fx 8350 oc 4.6

h100i

7970 ghz

256 samsung 840 pro

1 tb seagate sshd

1000w cooler master slient psu

16 gb of corsair vengence 

asus 990 fx r2.0 

haf 912 (I am currently upgrading this case)

1080p asus monitor 

 

I have a budget of around $300

Is your system struggling for how you use it for? Skylake sounds cool, but can you justify it?

I want to be able to play and record BF4 in 60 fps but currently my 7970 struggles to stay over 60 fps on the ultra with 2x msaa

Yeah, then you might wanna get a 970 with the 300 and whatever you make from selling off current gpu. :P

 

Buy another 7970/280x or sell your 7970 and buy a 970

 

GPU, I would get a 970 probably.

 

What are some of the advantages of getting a 970 single card vs 280x cf? And is crossfire really that bad?

What are some of the advantages of getting a 970 single card vs 280x cf? And is crossfire really that bad?

Raw power the crossfire will be better, but a lot of games are poorly optimized/don't even work with crossfire. Also, a 970 will consume much less power and arguably has better features (g-sync, DSR, shadowplay, etc)

i would say that the best thing would be to crossfire your 7970 if you need a upgrade

 

but i suggest just wating for a bit more money and for prices to drop

 

maybe pick up a 290(x) if it comes low enough for you

Also I want to do video editing. 

i dont think  that there is any thing that is $300 that will help your video editing speed other than a gpu
