Around christmas I will be getting a new graphics card, I don't know if it's going to be Radeon or Nvidia, it depends on which one is the best price to performence. Now when it comes to power consuption the r9 290x and gtx 970 is not very alike. The r9 290x draws plenty more power than the 970 and I don't know how that will end up over a span of a month. I have my computer on most of the day, can be from 8-14 hours and sometimes 24+, it depends on school work etc.. How much of a difference will the power cost be towards the end of the month/year if I choose to go with the 290x? If I choose the gtx 970 it will be almost the same as the setup I have now. Thanks.

Someone did the math the other day, I think it's like $14 extra a year if you game 5 hours a day for a year with a 290x vs 970.

Stuff:  i7 7700k @ (dat nibba succ) | ASRock Z170M OC Formula | G.Skill TridentZ 3600 c16 | EKWB 1080 @ 2100 mhz  |  Acer X34 Predator | R4 | EVGA 1000 P2 | 1080mm Radiator Custom Loop | HD800 + Audio-GD NFB-11 | 850 Evo 1TB | 840 Pro 256GB | 3TB WD Blue | 2TB Barracuda

Depends on where you live, in Denmark power is 0.4$ pr. kWh which is a lot, in other places it's a lot cheaper. For me it would matter, in the US power is a lot cheaper, so it doesn't matter as much there. At idle though the difference won't be much. You won't be putting your GPU to 90+% most of the time.

All in all it doesn't matter much unless you get to pay insane prices for power like i do in Denmark. But even here, with a good discount it's cheaper to go with the 290x

When in doubt: C4

I live in sweden and I have no clue how much a kwh is here since there are so many small companies that offers different prices. I wouldn't be a fan of an angry parent storming in my room with a high energy bill cause of a graphics card, maybe I'm over estimating the watts.

Performance comes with a price.

Exactly my point. If  $20 over a year is going to break the bank then maybe buying such high end hardware isn't a good choice. Anyway Id go with the 970  as its the better card in most games.

I read alot of reviews about the 970's and its coil whining. Anything I should lookout for?
