Hi, I'm new to computer components and all that and i just need to make sure that a GTX 970 would be compatible with my rig. I have a i have a intel i5-2500 CPU @3.30GHz, 8GB RAM, I'm not too sure of the power supply but it's something like a TX750 Which i assume is 750 watts :P. I also currently have a gtx 580. I was also wondering what brand of GTX 970 to get as i have no clue of the differences haha. thanks.

ok thanks. do have have any idea of what brand to go for i heard that the msi is the best to go for?

Personally I like EVGA or Asus or XFX (if we're talking about AMD GPUs) but I hear good things about MSI, Gigabyte, and so on.

Your i5 cpu I'm not 100% sure about if it will bottleneck.  So, I'll leave that for someone else.  But a 750watt psu is completley enough for a GTX 970, I could run a GTX 980 even on my 550watt power supply.

In terms of the brands.  Don't get to worried, essentially all the big brand cards Gigabyte, Asus, EVGA, MSI they are all going to be pretty good.  The main reason you would want a custom card by a different manufacterer than Nvidia is for the cooler and PCB.  (Maybe the looks?)

Generally, according to others EVGA has the best customer support, so keep that in mind.  Also, The Asus STRIX Cards have a zero mode (I think) Where they can turn off the fan when its not needed, which is great if you want a silent system but dont want to overclock.  And the Gigabyte has the Windforce Cooler which is supposed to be pretty good, and it looks super SEXY.

Hope this helped :)

People have different opinions and different brands they prefer.  But, if you read my comment you'll see what I'm talking about.  I can't quote on the MSI card because MSI isn't actually available in my country.

But, different manufacturer's cards have different bonuses.  EVGA (According to allot of people) make the best Nvidia cards, but don't quote me on that.

I have the i5 2400 and a Gtx 970 (overclocked to 1.5ghz) and they work fine together.

MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte all sell good cards. I've heard mixed reviews about the Zotac and EVGA 970s (EVGA used to have some problems with the cooler, but this issue could be fixed, it's been maybe 2 weeks since I've researched it)

If overclocking is important to you, the gigabyte card is probably your go-to card, but really, the 970 from any brand will kick ass and stay cool since it is so power efficient.

MSI and ASUS have the fans-off when idle mode if noise really bothers you. Still, the fans on my gigabyte model are whisper quiet.
