G502 Substitute suggestion

fredboivin

Hi all, I need your help for a mouse recommendation,

I bought a G502 to replace my old Microsoft M-BJ69, but I have a hard time adjusting to it. As the mouse is rounder and smoother, when I'm resting my hand as heavy as I did on the old one, it slips backward, twisting my wrist and making it scrape my mousepad (see the pictures).

Of course, I could use a lighter grip, but I find it tiring on my arm as the mouse is quite heavy. And I liked the grip I had on the old one, but it's too slow and lacks side buttons.

Could you recommend me a mouse that is the same size and has 2-3 side buttons, but is flatter and lighter? I looked at the Zowie FK and Steelseries Sensei Raw Rubber. It don't game a lot, I just want a quality mouse with buttons I can bind to shortcuts.

Thanks!

logitech just came out with a g302. Over 30grams lighter then the g502. Has 2 smb. Has mechanical springs for the lmb and rmb which feel really nice. Main downsides is a mediocre max speed, which shouldn't be an issue if you aren't a low sensitivity fps gamer and then the shape is small for many people, but looks like it might be right up your alley.

Thanks for your suggestions!

The g302 seems interesting, however I will try it before buying this time...

In the meantime, I found that the g502 is much easier to grip if I pinch it with my little finger on the rubber grip and elevate my arm rest. This way, my hand doesn't slip and all my fingers are correctly positioned. I'm not used to use my pinky to grip a mouse, so we'll see if it's too fatiguing in the long term.

Thanks for the help!

You might want to try the G400s if you want a corded optical while they are still reasonably priced. I couldn't use the G502 either as it was too cramped. The M500 has the ergonomics I love but there is too much jitter in the tracking due to the cheap laser sensor it uses. The G500s is kinda close in shape but has the sensor moved to the forward position on the mouse which I do not like.

The G700-600 are good I suppose but I don't really want wireless. One can have a cord attached but it's also for charging and it is THICK.

I am using a Deathadder Chroma right now but you have to hold it at a slant (too much pressure on my thumb) so I am not sure if I will keep it and you have to activate the drivers online which is dubious.

So the G400s looks like about my only option for my personal needs. I love the flywheel in some of the Logitechs for scrolling through documents so you may want to consider that. The G400s has no such flywheel.

The Zowie FK1 is a great mouse, the only reason I didn't like it was because it was too low for me and I prefer ergonomic mice.

As people have suggested, the SteelSeries Sensei is what you seem to be looking for, it's a really good mouse too.

Thank you for all your insights

I use the Dell MS111 at work and I quite like the grip I have on it. Looking at the specs, it's about the same shape and dimensions as the Logitech g302. I will indeed try to get my hands on the G302 when it's out.

I will also look for the Steelseries Sensei and Rival and the Logitech G400.

So,

I looked at your suggestions and my shape preferences, and don't think I will like the Sensei. My grip is grip/palm and occasional fingertip and I don't have very large hands either (177mm from wrist to tip), so the Sensei seems too big for me.

I will try to return my G502 and now hesitate between the G302 and the Corsair M45. What are your thoughts on them?
