So you start your pc and it says 6 and allows 4 and then you restart it and it shows 8 and allows 8?

And then you restart it again and problem is back???

Funny thing is, you can use more than 4GB+ with a 32bit OS if you patch the kernel.

Full system specs would be nice, and are you sure you don't have a on board GPU that's using 2GB?

Main: i7 2600 | ASUS P8Z68-V | 2x4GB Vengeance 1600 | GTX 580 | WD Blue 1TB | Antec TP-650C | NH U12S | W7 x64

Backup: X6 1090T | MSI K9A2 Platinum | 4x2GB XMS2 800 | GTX 550Ti | WD Blue 1TB |  Antec VP-450 | CM TX3 | W7 x64

@RosBoss If you run resmon (Resource Monitor) (type into WIndows Search) and look at the memory tab, is the missing memory specifically "Hardware Reserved"?

Thus you need Memory Remapping in the BIOS enabled.

but usually it's the ABOVE remapping disabled/not supported that is the cause.

Alternatively (Swap ram sticks around, in case of a bug)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Resmon shows this: http://gyazo.com/7c644c9420c50703ecf72587ef28cb9c as you can see it's 6 gb installed.

I restarted my computer and now it shows this: http://gyazo.com/9e3addca3bc203fc77f4dda3dcf59a68

@RosBoss try running memtest86 and see if it fins any errors. Also try updating the BIOS on your motherboard and swapping the DIMMs.

Is there a MEMORY REMAPPING type function in your System BIOS?

Usually this is the problem... not being enabled.

Some motherboards do it automatically & don't allow you to change it.
