Asus X.99 Deluxe motherboard SSD options

red_smeg

Hi,

I just purchased an X99.  It has an m.2 slot on the mobo and a pcie daughter board for adding m.2 SSD.  The specs say upto 32GB/sec as opposed to the 6GB/sec sata.  But i don't see any options to buy pcie SSD's for this MOBO.

how do i get an SSD that is m.2 pcie or at least sata Express through the SATA express connectors on board.

I'm pretty sure any of these will work. The PCI-e card is just for mounting an M.2 card on that; either in addition to, or in place of, the one directly on the board.

I'm interested to see how much of a real-world improvement it really makes. I have an X99-Deluxe and I was going back and forth on getting one for my C: drive instead of an SSD.

I'm having the same issue.

M.2 are mostly running at 6Gb/s - the same speeds as a typical SSD - just in a smaller form factor.

In order to leverage the 32Gb/s speed of the "*4 speed" PCIe lanes, you'll need an M.2 drive with compatible controller capable of 32Gb.

Unfortunately the last I heard of, these were quite rare to come across.

I'm super interested in getting a 32Gb/s M.2 as well - but it needs to have the right controller.

So basically you need the right controller? Oh well, I guess we have to wait for better M.2 options.
