R9 280 for around $150 is unbeatable for 1080p gaming.

You also get a few free games with it I believe.

^This, you get 3 free games. I chose Alien: Isolation, Alien Vs. Predator, and Sniper Elite 3. The Gigabyte version is around $200, and has great temps.

Go for an R9-280, or a better card if on sale.

For about the same price of an R9-280, a GTX 760 will slightly outperform it. Heat output is great, power consumtion is good, and SLI scaling is great.

There IS always the possiblity of a 960 in the future.

Also, try to catch GPU sales, prices can be reduced by a high percentage.

My recommendation: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-02gp42765kr

i'm sorry but the r9 280 is a superior gpu to the 760...it also have an extra gb of vram.

i mean just look at the benchmark youve linked the r9 280 is the clear winner here.

The 280 may bit a tiny bit faster overall but in no way is it far superior in any way. Ultimately it is up to the individual which card they like better personally and for what reasons but both cards perform very very similar in most all games. Personally if you ask me I would be going with the 280 cause of all the free games and the extra gig of Vram might come in handy in some game.

Under $200 you are looking at the GTX 760 if you only go for nvidia cards or the R9 280 is you only go for AMD cards. Which one offers better value for you is your decision but they perform very very similar in 95% of games.

This isn't generally true in the benchmarks I've been seeing. The R9 280 will beat the GTX 760 in basically every game, and holds up much better to higher detail settings. I've seen the GTX 760 much closer to the 270X than to the 280 in certain newer titles.

Its not a card I'd recommend anymore, especially with 280's going for as much or less at times.

the r9 280 is a more capable gpu as well gather informations from many reviews and youll start to realise its noticeably faster in everygame except nvidia's games (borderland, bioshock) the 280 pulls ahead by about 5 to10fps everytime and powerconsumption on these is in fact very similar you dont notice the difference.

...and btw i said ''superior'' not ''far superior''...nuance.
