Small Office File Server Questions

YellowMenace

My mom's place of work needs a file server for obvious reasons and I had some questions about this;

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nykqWZ

Is the CPU stable enough for near 24/7 operation?

And

Is the PSU for enough for the task at hand without getting to crispy and be good for 24/7 operation?

CPU: AMD FX 8320e | Mobo: Gigabyte GA‑78LMT‑USB3 | Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper n520 | RAM: 8Gb @ 1333MHz

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1060 mITX | PSU: Antec HCG 520w | Storage: Sandisk 120GB - WD Red 1TB | Case: Modded IBM A50 sleeper

All displayed on an AOC I2421VWH

I'd suggest getting a lower wattage higher-reliability one.

Sig under construction.

For that motherboard & that CPU, together, they are $275 without taxes (roughly). Why not just buy the ASRock C2550D4I? It's $5 more, but comes with two more cores (total of 4) and a few more features, plus it's smaller and uses less power.

Note that I've worked on the C2750D4I, so things to note if you consider that:

  • 30 seconds to boot up. It's slow.
  • It requires a PSU that supports Haswell low power states (The one you selected does IIRC)
  • It uses ECC Unbuffered DDR3 RAM (The RAM you selected is compatible)

Don't ignore it because it's ASRock. Their server stuff is top notch.

Here is an example build I did with it:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($169.00 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($169.00 @ Amazon)
Case: Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Tower Case  ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic X Series 400W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($109.99 @ Amazon)
Other: ASRock C2550D4I Mini ITX Server Motherboard ($280.00)
Other: Crucial 2x8GB ECC Unbuffered RAM ($169.99)
Total: $987.97
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Obviously change out whatever, but that is a very small, efficient, but powerful server.
