Which card won't be bottleneck by CPU?

Luhan
Go to solution Solved by EcoBoost,

I was planning on getting an Pentium Anniversary edition, but I heard anything above a 750 , such as R 9 270/80, and 760 will be bottlenecked

It depends what you do with it. If you play games that only use one or two cores, an overclocked G3258 won't even bottleneck a 295X2

That's stupid. Yes it is dual core but it's still devils canyon and can oc like stink to make up for the fact that it's a dual core

It won't be bottlenecked it will just have lower framerates due the CPU go crazy with the Video card.

Not really, the G3858 can OC to be the same level as an i7 at stock, despite it's a dual core

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

Taking simple "yes" and "no" answers by lazy posters looking to up their post count in "will this bottleneck" threads is a horrible idea.

When making a thread about choosing hardware, please give us as much info as you can. Which games do you play? What will the PC be used for in general?

I'll be using it for mostly editing photos with GIMP, and other software. I'll be playing MMOs, and some AAA titles.

Do whatever you want,  A bottleneck is relative, Im on a
a6 6400k(About 20% less powerful than a G3258)
and a GTX 660(about 10% more powerful than a gtx 750ti and 10% less powerful than a gtx 760)

In most games im bottlenecked, But i turn down the shadows and push higher textures and AA instead so the load becomes balanced.

Balanced load=No bottleneck
Unbalanced load=Bottleneck.

You can pair it with a 760 if you want.

But for MMO's and new AAA titles i would recommend a quad core, You get a more stable framerate that way.

If you OC it to around 4.5Ghz, there almost won't be any bottleneck, even with 980!

It mostly depends if a game is CPU or GPU bound and if the game is heavily threaded!

basically its a 2 core i5. with a good overclock it fine in games that rub in 1 or 2 cores but games like battlefield will suffer.

But its the perfect chip for arma 3

try telling that to people in this thread http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/246749-question-about-a-g3258-at-34ghz-and-a-gtx-970/ "HURR BOTTLENECK HERE AND THERE. god i hate when people use bottleneck. pretty much people think i'm clueless about this cpu when i use it everyday and know i NEVER hit 100% cpu usage in games or even close to 80%,

I'd guess you could get up to a 970 or so without bottleneck if you oc'd it. (the cpu)

Well, at 3.4 it's not anything amazing, but as long as you OC it over 4.0, you've got a beast :)

It think that it's a best band for the buck out there :) I'd rather go with it than with 860k :)

yes it does, its an haswell dual core.

theres nothing magic about the pentium making it the all mighty pentium ''k'' that you think it is...also the i7 gave that dual core full access to 8mb of faster cache, something the pentium can only dream of...so if anything an i7 running only 2 threads is BETTER than your pentium.
