So a few months ago, Intel released its new chipset, X99, which now supports DDR4 memory. And currently, Intel is the only one to support DDR4, which means that AMD is really losing some ground in the CPU market.

Do you think AMD will make a move to release a new CPU and socket to support DDR4 soon?

kompooterz.

Not anytime soon, AMD is slightly more value oriented, and DDR4 doesn't really make THAT much of a difference in games

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

apu's and ddr4 prices

are not going to work

At this point in time, true. But once DDR4 becomes mainstream, imagine the potential that APUs could have with DDR4, since the iGPU will saturate that sweet bandwidth.

I think yes but I also think it'll be a rushed attempt.

Yea this would make so many budget builds perform better.

AMD has confirmed AM4, but it will likely stick with DDR3.

Honestly, good. DDR4 isn't worth the price, considering the small performance benefit it gives over higher clocked DDR3 at the moment.

Well, DDR3 is getting old... Still usable on many builds today, but DDR4, IMO, has many improvements. It is more power-efficient by running at lower voltages (what @LinusTech said in his unboxing of the Intel Space Capsule). Also, it is much faster, since it can overclock at 3333 MHz...

Come on, AMD. You can do better.

How many people that are buying amd cpu's need ddr4 anyway? :P

^ This

People who are selling their limbs to pay for DDR4 are not going to be paring them with APUs and AMD's octocores. They'll be after LGA-2011-3

Maybe by the time Zen comes out... Who knows...

For now we're stuck with PCIe 2 and DDR3 on AM3+ and PCIe 3 and DDR3 on FM2+...

DDR4 support is only on the entusiest platform. Not even Intel's up coming Broardwell chips have support for DDR4.

Even the one after that (Skylake) will support both DDR3 and DDR4 (not on the same board, it will be up to the manufacturer to decide what the bard will support).

I don't think AMD will have DDR4 support for at least a 18 months if not longer.

more power efficient... Yea, by going with DDR4 you MIGHT save $0.000000000001/year. But seriously, RAM uses virtually no power. And while it's faster it has a higher latency virtually negating the speed increase (in gaming anyway) -- For things like APUs and rendering type applications, the speed of the ram does actually make a difference. BUT, most people still have 1600mhz DDR3 while there are plenty of DDR3 kits that go up to 2400, and can be overclocked further.

i think DDR4 is the least priority for AMD atm...i think what they have to focus on is getting up to date in the CPU department and launch something that will have a descent IPC for modern applications...the architecture they work on is old and inefficient.

i think all will come (DDR4 + PCIe x16 4.0 + more) with the new socket line  ^_^

new socket? do you know things we don't know cause as far as i know AMD does not work on a new CPU architecture they are improving the FM2 socket...
