Low GPU usage, GTX 780 SLI

Go to solution Solved by KieranFretwell,

No surprise here, i think everybody that plays this game has this problem. Dont worry about it.

Hi. Im having problems with low GPU usage, resulting in low FPS.

I have turned power management mode in the Nvidia control panel to "prefer maximum performance".

Power usage and general usage are around 50-60 percent on both GPU's, and there is no CPU or RAM bottleneck.

I have attached a screenshot with MSI Afterburner monitoring data.

Can anyone help me get the GPU usage up? I realy hate having all this hardware and getting framerates in the 40s :(

Everything is watercooled so there are no temp limits.

Specs:

Gtx 780 x2@1400MHz

4770K@4.4 GHz

16GB 1866MHz RAM

Z87M Extreme 4 Motherboard

Of course you have low gpu usage in arma. You are clearly misguided. You can run arma 4k on one 780 at 60fps. It's a terribly codded game and you are being held back by the fact the game uses 1 cpu core. I hope you didn't get all that gpu horsepower for arma.

WOW, thanks for quick responses! Yeah, i tested it a couple of times with SLI disabled, and I still only got about 60% usage:( Does anyone know if this is an issue Bohemia has adressed?

Another quiestion: Is low GPU usage a common problem, even in AAA titles?

Its going to be pretty much specific to ARMA because this game is so CPU dependent.  Try out other games and see for yourself.  This is just one of those games that requires tons of CPU horsepower.

Ok. Thats realy anoying, but im actualy not maxing out my CPU. CPU usage never went above 85-90 percent.

I hope you didn't buy a 2nd GPU for ARMA... that would be a case of not doing your homework.  90% CPU usage is very high for a game, ARMA3 is one of the few games that can push the CPU that high.  If you want more performance in this game, overclock higher.

I notised now using MSI afterburner that the CPU usage on all cores hovers around 50%. Furthermore I notised that not only is the GPU usage just around 50-60%, but its not using all the available clock speed. My cards are clocked at 1400 MHz but in game its only 1041 MHZ! This is so frustrating! Also, using SLI, as you can see in the picure above its just using 901 Mhz :(

You're going to need an Intel processor if you want to push those cards to their max. Not only that, but you will get much better performance in ARMA.

My bad, confused this thread with another.

Got the 4770K.

I know, I got confused with a different thread.  Some guy had an 8350 with a 780.  He bought a 2nd 780 thinking he would get better performance in ARMA.  Very similar situation to yours.  I just mistook which thread I was in.
