No need to free ram in certain scenarios. Ex: Doing nothing uses alot of ram to speed things up

Thats not what I meant. What I mean is get as much as you can. Mac loves all the ram it can get.

I would highly recommend reading this article. It explains some of the differences & paradigms between Windows and OS X.

Applications:

- http://mizage.com/divvy/ - quick and easy window size & place manager.

- http://kapeli.com/dash - text expansion and snippets

- http://smoothmouse.com/ - removes mouse acceleration

- http://www.boastr.de/ - BetterTouchTool (add custom hotkeys, window snapping etc.)

- http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/menumeters/ - display CPU, memory, disk usage etc. in menubar

- http://jumpcut.sourceforge.net/ - clipboard manager

- http://macromates.com/ - good text editor

- http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/ - uninstaller (finds preference files etc. and deletes them)

- http://secrets.blacktree.com/ - adds an extra menu to system preferences with more settings

- http://mrrsoftware.com/namechanger/ - batch file renaming

- http://notational.net - quick note taking

Useful settings in system prefences:

- configure modifier keys in Keyboard -> Modifier keys

- change system & application specific hotkeys in Keyboard -> Shortcuts (BetterTouchTool can also do this)

- Disable GateKeeper in Security & Privacy -> Allow apps downloaded from anywhere

- Disable translucency in Accessibility -> Display -> Reduce transparency

- Change Finder sidebar icon size to small in General

In Finder settings, change "When performing a search:" to "Search the current folder" instead of "Search this Mac" for easy searching of a specific directory and it's subdirectories

I need an app to capture my screen, like Fastone Capture in Windows. I know the screen capture commands Mac supports but i need something more than that.

For example, when capturing with Fastone in Windows, you have the option to edit a little bit the captured image, pretty much like paint in Windows (add arrows, lines etc.).

I need that exact option in Mac, any suggestions?
