I recommend the Pebble or Pebble Steel, but tbh its all down to personal preference. Take your time to research and find which smart watch is right for you

I'm looking at just getting a Pebble, not a Pebble Steel. Do you guys think it's a good save of $100?

It seems durable enough, works, and has good battery life. Sure why not?

Or perhaps the new Microsoft Band once it releases? I believe it should cost around 199 USD, although it will only launch in the US at first. It works with all platforms btw which is a nice feature.

Hmmm. This is a big surprise for me. :)

Did the kickstarted edition have 4 slots or something? I remember something about 4.

I worry because my dad is getting me the pebble, but he tends to grab whatever. This includes kickstarted editions.

PEBBLE STEEL FTW

$199

-Fantastic design & build quality

-mature software, massive app store / watch face selection

-no speaker or mic, but can control things through your phone

-receives notifications from your phone

-tracks steps/calories/whatever (with apps)

-built-in compass, so GPS apps can auto-rotate (minimap on your wrist!)

-fantastic screen; e-paper (NOT e-ink, which flashes between updates), visible in bright light and high-res enough to comfortably read small text

-great battery life - 5-7 days, I get 4-5 on my non-Steel (but the batteries are the same I believe)

-fully waterproof, dust-proof, and shock-proof (only advertised as waterproof, but it can take a beating) - 5ATM, or 50 meters in water for 30 minutes (I've kept mine in a pool for an hour plus, so it's basically wearable all the time, even under pressured water like in the shower; it's sealed tight.)

-Bluetooth 4.0 + LE, so it sips power

-Surprisingly high functionality; can control apps, music, there's even an app for storing your Starbucks card, and one for Foursquare check-ins.

-Charger is proprietary, but is magnetic and really sweet; no open ports!

But, best of all:

It's a watch! When idle (unless you leave it in an app such as Music), it displays the watch face full-screen with nothing else, so unlike most other smart watches, it's a legit watch, not trying too hard to be a tiny phone that happens to tell time.

So, go with the Pebble. And get the silver Steel- the black one shows wear easier.

Does it have 8 app slots?

Yes, but it's more than it sounds like; after a while, you get to find out which ones you'll actually use, and which are just 'nice to have.' Plus, you can easily swap out apps using the Pebble app on your phone

Sir you are wrong, I have 8 slots on the original, do you need a picture?

Yes! It had 4, but they quickly doubled it, long before the Steel even existed.

If you don't mind it being plastic, I'll admit double the price for steel and some Gorilla Glass seems expensive.

All versions get all software updates; the Kickstarter edition is the exact same device, except it says 'Kickstarter Edition' on the back.

There is no 'Steel OS' and 'Original OS' - it's the same hardware in different bodies, so all versions get the same exact software.

I see. Thanks for clearing this up for me.
