In theory, you should be able to see more in shooters but I didn't like it. My aim was a mess, so were the HUDs in the games I was playing. I was using 2 GTX580s in SLI with an i7 920 on a 1366 board. I really wanted to make it work, I gave it 6 months but it just wasn't for me and in the end, I just used the side monitors as media screens/temp monitors/twitter feeds ect.

I can never go back to having just 1 monitor, but I'll never game on more than one again. If I wanted a wider aspect, I'd happily try 21:9 but at the same time, you'll have to pry my ROG Swift out of my cold, dead hands :D

was going 1440p a good move for u ? because i thought about it but the price and horsepower to run one (its quite expensive here u can get 3 decent 1080p panels for a single 1440p one) that made me think twice about it

It absolutely was for me. I really like 1440p gaming. The PPI makes it look great but it's not so dense as to cause scaling issues in windows. A single 980 is actually perfect for gaming at 1440p @ 60hz with games maxed out. There wasn't a game I was getting lower than 50fps in before I got my 2nd 980. If I wasn't planning on getting a swift a few days after, I wouldn't have bothered with the 2nd graphics card as one is plenty for 1440p

I had a 1440p monitor for about a year before I got my swift though so 1440p isn't new to me by any means. Could I go back to 1080? Yea, I think I could but not if I can help it.

As always though, this is just some random guys opinion, I'm not you. Just because I like 1440p and don't like 3 monitor surround, doesn't mean it's not absolutely perfect for you!

im kinda thinking of going 1440p because the stretching for surround is kinda making me have second thoughts the only 1440p panel i can get my hands on are the asus PB287q and the dell u2713hm for the same price which would u recommend

Well I have a PB278Q and I love it but apparently you can get better for less. I'm no monitor expert, I'm just lucky enough to be able to afford expensive ones.

yeah but its a bit expensive over here

It's a bit expensive everywhere lol. I'd suggest asking other people about 1440p IPS/PLS screens. I'm certain there are better options out there that are both cheaper and better quality. I like paying a bit more for a brand I know and trust but that doesn't mean that other brands are bad by any means.

yeah but for the same price i could get the dell u2713hm which is a pre callibrated ips monitor which seems like a much better option and was what i was thinking of.

I've read that's a very good monitor, but like I said, I'm no expert in the matter. Go with what you want.

As I roam the internet for some info, I can't be exactly sure that a SINGLE 970-980GTX will run two 4K monitors, both AT SIXTY HERTZ. Call me a n00b if I'm missing something when this specific info isn't proven yet but I can't buy and try and THEN find out that there's a catch here and there, and it's crucial for me to run 2X 4K monitors off a singe Nvidia GPU that costs under 1K$ ...

( client's request )

I understand each Diplay port 1.2 is capable of sustaining a 4K monitor at 4K 60Hz what I can't be sure of though, is can the GPU itself handle 2

please note, games are not of the essence here, if ever it'll be a sigle screen game , thanks for your time

a single 980 can run 2 4k monitors. It wont be a pleasurable experience gaming but for productivity, it'll blow it outa the water! You can game on one 4k monitor (expect around 20-30fps in games on high settings) but I wouldn't really recommend that on a single 980 at 4k. A single 980 can run 3 4k @ 60hz + 1 HDMI + 1 DVI, all at the same time! Possibly more with a MST hub which splits Display port connections turning a single one into 3 (not sure how these work with 4k screens or how they scale at all! lol).

If you want to game on a single 4k screen and have a second 4k screen display netflix or whatever, it'll be fine :)

Right, thanks ChaosGow for the info :) , well Adobe stuff are the main course of this PC and 4K video editing and compositing is what's planned here, it already is a breeze with the 5960X, it's just that there really isn't that much $ left for upgrade and the screens here are still 1080P, so had to be sure coz display port 4K screens are provided and on their way, all that was left was a signle Nvidia GPU to handle all that, reason for that is that 16 PCIe lanes is the maximum that we can give the GPU, the rest of the lanes given to storage, networking and other add in cards. so no dual GPUs whatsoever ...

In the not so far future, I'll be building my own X99 and I'll be asking the obvious booting from M2 drive questions then ;)

You can't plug in monitors to a second GPU in SLI anyway, the outputs get disabled. As far as m.2 drives go, just unplug all the others when you're installing windows, then plug em back in when you're done with that and set them up - It's pretty good practice to do this when you're installing windows anyway because windows can put that small 300mb boot partition thing on any random drive in your system, screwing you for other applications.
