Should I upgrade to intel from fx 8350? If so how much would I benefit?

Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

Alright so how in the world am I going to sell my fx 8350 and crosshair v formula z mobo? And does a 780 classy sli with a 780 normal?

Craigslist. eBay. LTT and OCN Classifieds.

Im not sure about the classy and a regular 780 SLIing.  They say that any 780 can SLI with another, but they also say its best to get two identical cards.

By the way, you need to quote or "@" someone to see that you've replied.

How many more frames would I get if I bought: (can save up enough in 1 1/2 months, 542$)

Crosshair v formula z

850 evga g2 gold psu

250gb samsung evo ssd

1tb 7200rpm hdd seagate black edition

8gb xtreem 2400mhz ddr3 ram

I currently have a valley benchmark of ~3100 overclocked. I've overclock my cpu and gpu to its limits and still don't get the fps I want in skyrim 27-60fps, wanting 60-100fps.

OR should I save up for x99 platform and get it in 3 months? 1169$

So basically can someone tell me the FRAMERATE increase between my current platform and z97, and also between z97 and x99?

Update!!!: Price out of the equation. Would getting a second gtx 780 considering I'd (according to scources) get only 20% scaling be better than upgrading to z97 and i7 4790k?

Also consider I would like to go SLI after upgrading platform later on as well.

Or should I wait for Skylake and just get a second gpu to satisfy my needs for now?

No, that is still a very capable and relevant CPU.

CPU doesn't usually affect frames a ton anyway. Unless you're playing PS2.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Unless you are upgrading to X99, the FX CPU is fine.

FX CPUs are still okay but if i wouldn't suggest getting a FX cpu right now because AM3+ is dead.

If your happy with the performance you have right now then keep it, if not then upgrade.

If the rig is purly gaming and you want to upgrade right now, then a i5 4690K + Z97 is a great combo or a G3258+ Z97 and OC the cpu to hell and upgrade to a i5/i7 in the future if you do not want to spend a lot of money.

That upgrade would only give you about 5-10% fps improvement in games, and faster applications.
You should save up and wait for broadwell or skylake, since the 8350 is still an ok CPU.

Not worth the upgrade atm.

I know he mentioned the i7-4790k but I just said that it isn't worth it unless you're going x99.

It's difficult to give a framerate increase because it varies so much from game to game. If you want specifics, look for benchmarks for the game you intend to play and see if it's worth it

Is your 8350 OCed? If it isn't, I'd suggest trying that.

Else, the i5-4690k is a great gaming chip. If you're only gaming, it's a much better option for you. If you're looking to upgrade, however, it's probably not worth it, unless you're really unhappy with the current level of performance. Honestly, you're good for now.

X99 is mostly a waste of money if you're looking for only gaming. The i7-4790k uses the same chip, and would perform more or less the same in games.

You would be better off using that money for a better gpu.  The 8350 is still a great cpu.

Ok Skyrim, how much more fps would I get in skyrim?

Skyrim is a game that prefers strong cores.  You will get massive gains by switching to Intel.  Especially the minimum framerates.

X99 is not going to be better for gaming than an i5/i7.  X99 is for productivity, not gaming.

You have a 144Hz Monitor, your FX8 is bottlenecking your single 780.  You say you want to add a 2nd 780, I showed you those benchmarks earlier on how different games scale between FX8 and an i5.  The FX8 was only getting 10-20% fps gains while the i5/i7 was getting around 80%.  In order to push those framerates, you need to buy an i5/i7.  That is your first upgrade.  Buy a Z97 motherboard + i5/i7.  Then add a 2nd 780.  Anything else other than that and you are either spending too much for worse gaming performance, or you are bottlenecking your gaming experience.

Intel 1st.  So you can get the most out of your current 780.  780s will still be available, and you could always buy used or B stock from EVGA.

I'm going to an i5 4670k from an FX-8320 clocked at 4ghz. I have the motherboard and the cpu is in the mail. I was experiencing some pretty bad bottlenecks in games like BF3, Witcher 2, COD Ghosts, and obviously Arma 3. Crysis 3 ran fine with the fx8320 but there was lots of dips and stutters. BF4 runs great thanks to mantle, on dx11 api it runs like crap and perfoverlay.drawgraph 1 shows tons of cpu bottlenecking. The FX 8320 just can't feed my R9 290. Back when I had a GTX760 it was a great cpu.
