impressed by gtx 780 ti over Thunderbolt 2

Mr.Reggin

Well I found a video on youtube someone running a gtx 780 ti over Thunderbolt 2 and I saw (and he also confirmed that under the video) that he got 80-90% of FPS he would get over Pcie 3.0 x16. Well Thunderbolt 2 is much slower than Pcie 3.0 so these benchmarks kinda impressed me. I expected him to get like 20% FPS with stuttering. What do you guys think?

well, I wish there would be 700-800€ laptop with an i5/i7 and hd graphics, but an thunderbolt 2 connector or even an external mPcie 2.0/3.0 x16, so you can have a pretty high end gaming machine at home, cuz if my laptop had that i would safe up some money and get a gtx 770 since prices are dropping of these gpu's. My Intel core i7 4702MQ wont be bottlenecking any gpu as far as I know.

IKR, 13" retina pro (if it had iros pro..DO IT APPLE) and then a small thunderbolt enclosure to run a 980 in =  perfect

so they are going add an external mPcie connector?

dont think its mpcie, it says it offers full pcie x16 bandwidth

The enclosure are around 1000$. If it was 30-50$ it would be worth it. But it's not, and you need a PSU for the GPU. Its not included in the enclosure. Just have a desktop, and use OneDrive to sync your files between systems. Cheaper this way, and you have full power of your GPU, and faster CPU.

50$ is a little extreme, if it was say $300 or something that would be reasonable

Dont forget that means owning a desktop AND a laptop....

It makes sense if somebody can do it well priced, as I say, this new MSI laptop comes with the enclosure for free, which is awesome

Why too expensive?

The non-Thunderbolt version is dirt cheap.

70$ for this limited manufactured product: http://www.hwtools.net/Adapter/PE4L%20V2.1.html

The product that can actually pull it off, is Microsoft with Surface Pro line if they wanted.

The power connected has a bunch of pin unused. They maybe find a way to have PCI-E 4x (and not 1x like above), and allow a low end GPU in the dock stations to be connected. Like a GeForce 730, or maybe, a 750 Ti. Wishful thinking, of course. But I think they can pull it off, if they wanted. Basically dropping the price, due no thunderbolt design.

Of course, if that happens, as it a dock there would be a premium price, like what you said 300$, but aftermarket solution could be available.

u could run a gtx 780 on Pcie 3.0 x4 without too much of a bottleneck
