Mainstream DDR4

I heard a while back(quite a while back actually) that when DDR4 goes mainstream, its gonna be based on Intel's new Broadwell Architecture which gets new CPU's. Now i was expecting Broadwell to feature a new LGA socket but when i went here:

the fourth respondent (sci.fi.man=name) essentially suggested that Broadwell is gonna use LGA1150???

 

Is that gonna happen???

Do share ANY extra info you may have on mainstream DDR4

Maybe be same socket but it will have to be a new chipset because of the DDR4 RAM, so the old boards won't work. Kinda what they did with Haswell-E (LGA2011-V3)

Broadwell will still be DDR3. Skylake (the next archictecture after Broadwell) will get DDR4 and a new LGA1151 socket.

No, it was confirmed that 9-series will support Broadwell.

Nope, no DDR4 for Broadwell. Only DDR3.

like some others allready stated, next year unlocked broadwell chips will be released for Z97 with DDR3

At the same time the new Z170 skylake platform will be released on socket 1151 with DDR4 support, But there will only be locked skylake chips.

 

THe unlocked skylake chips are planed for 2016.

intel will release two virgins one will be an BIOS update for z97 to allow Broadwell cpu's & a new chipset that will have ddr4 support so this means that  the Broadwell cpu will have ddr3 & ddr4 memory controllers build in them, Intel make good money from making chipsets so expect new ones with every new cpu release
