Thinking about upgrading my GPU to a gtx 970. Just wanted to know if that is what I should go for (in that price range). Also making sure that it would work without the 8350 bottlenecking the 970 or something. And how big of a difference in FPS should I expect?

My current rig is

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660

CPU: AMD FX 8350 Eight-Core Processor

8 GB RAM

Win 7 Ultimate Edition 64-bit

With Intel processors you could've seen much more performance but I must talk (ignorant) to some AMD experienced people so I guess with a GTX 970 you should see a significant 57 percent improvement of your current card.

Best model? The ASUS Strix or Zotac new Extreme or Omega cards.. Oh! And if you like Gigabyte, they offer excellent cooling. But I assume the ASUS Strix is the best.. tbh.

@P.S. Also, with Windows 8.1 or 10(will come out in 2015 if you hate 8.) will give you a GREAT improvement.

The 8350 wont bottleneck at all, it will even be just fine for any dual gpu config.

Considering performance, you can expect about a doubling in performance according to videocardbenchmark.net:

It will bottleneck in certain games:

"To put it nicely, the FX-8370E is a true middle-of-the-road CPU. Using it only makes sense as long as the graphics card you choose comes from a similar performance segment.

Depending on the game in question, AMD’s new processor has the potential to keep you happy around the AMD Radeon R9 270X/285 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 or 660 Ti level.

A higher- or even high-end graphics card doesn’t make sense, as pairing it with AMD's FX-8370E simply limits the card's potential."

-Tom's

"The FX-8370E stretches its legs a little in terms of minimum frame rates, particularly in SLI, however it is handily beaten by the i3-4330."

Those benchmarks aren't biased and they are from real games, a wide variety of games. They are from 4 different sources all with the same results. Show me benchmarks show in the 8350 outperforming a stock i5. Just one source other than the fake Tek Syndicate video. Those videos of people using 8320s and 970s and 980s? They are bottlenecked. Some games are worse than others, but pairing a high end GPU with an 8350 no matter how overclocked the processor is, it is bottlenecking.

I disagree, my fx8320 overclocked to 4ghz bottlenecks my r9 290 pretty badly in dx11 games. If you have a powerful card 780,290,970 or above it's best to go intel.

it will be fine, just overclock it if you feel the cpu bottleneck your gpu. FX8320 is one of top tier cpu from AMD to be honest.

it does bottleneck the card but not to the point where it's not worth the upgrade IMHO if you enjoy high anti-aliasing and graphicaly demanding settings cranked to max and you don't mind having the GPU running only at 80% load at times...it's still worth the upgrade...tho i would consider a core i5-4590 and H97 motherboard upgrade that's for sure...
