How much power does my system need?

My to be build:

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Alir/saved/gMm2FT

I tried http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine and it came out with just over 1000W watts. I'm really surprised. I thought I would struggle to even reach 750W and so I think I'm doing it wrong. Can someone try themselves and see the result?

Info:

I imagine I'll overclock as much as possible without killing my pc, with the built in 5 way optimisation Asus boards come with.

4 120mm fans

3 140 fans

^those fans will be the max I'll put inside.

I haven't decided on which Radeon R9 290X GPU i'll get - but i'll likely get one of those

Those PSU calculators are complete trash, never use them.

You'll be fine with a 650W to have some overhead, 800W if you want to throw in another card, 850W to be completely safe with two cards in that system with heavy OCing.

What effect would an 850W PSU have with my current config - only one GPU?

I imagine using a 850W PSU, my PC will be slightly less efficient using more more than needed?

I feel slightly uncomfortable with a 750W PSU - in case it turns out to not be enough?

Unless anyone can convince me that 750W will be enough for my needs, for the lifespan of this pc?

Would going for an 850 over a 750 be more silent?

650W will be just fine. Go for an EVGA 750 G2 if you want your PSU to be a little quieter :)

that is a G2 psu though? Or did you mean going to a 750 from a 650 will be quieter?

How does increasing the wattage make it quieter? Do you mean that fan speed and wattage are proportional - using more power would increase the fan speed?

Yes. That is exactly what i mean.

In that case would an 850 make sense over a 750? Or would a 750 be more than enough?

I also plan on upgrading stuff later on - adding fans, optical drives - maybe storage if needed - card readers - fan controllers.

I am also worried a 750 will not be enough for OCing - note I am a beginner at OCing and even PC building - I actually know nothing about wattage requirements for my build - It's just a concern

OK yeah I'm inclined to just go with a 750W instead.

Would overclocking be too much for a 750 to handle?

A good 550w would already be more than enough for any single gpu system. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cs550m

A decent ~800w would be good if you plan to cf. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b20750vr

It's short for CrossfireX.

Yeah the 750W PSU is off the table. Amazon will take 1-2 months for delivery.

Unless I get a 750 from a different seller on amazon

WHICH will mean the prices between the 750 and the 850 are almost similar.

Would the 750 be more efficient than the 850, meaning electricity bills would be lower?

Or is there an advantage in going for the 850 - note I will not be using 2 GPUs.

And btw I'm choosing between:

750 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00J01K3E8/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

850 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00J299ALA/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Efficiency would be pretty much the same.

I wouldn't worry about the difference in efficiency.

A larger psu would be preferred for more extreme oc'ing.

Why not buy from Aria.co?

I am also want my psu to be as silent as possible

Your hdd is easily louder than most decent psus.

It's not on that site. http://www.aria.co.uk/Products?search=EVGA+750W+&x=0&y=0&searchCat=619

And I have never used that site. I'm more comfortable with using Amazon for my purchases - unless someone can convince me the customer service elsewhere is good. Discussion: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/239573-purchasing-pc-components-what-are-these-retailers-like/

Fair enough point about the HDD.

I don't know much about custom built PCs. This is my first build.

I haven't heard any issues with any of the merchants listed on pcpartpicker other for things like mail-in rebate.

If you must use Amazon, go ahead and get the 850G2.
