Ok. So, I just bought the R9 290x matrix. Gotta say, it's gorgeous. Installed the drivers for it, few min later, I get a black screen. And nothing. So I do some trial and error, nothing worked. Decided to reinstall windows, was fine for a while. Installed the drivers from asus website, then installed amd catalyst, right after install get black screen again. Pop in my old reference 7970, everything is fine.

Any help, will be greatly appreciated and I'll give you a high five lol.

How can I do that?

When ever I boot up, I get about 10sec to do anything and then get the black screen

Plug the monitor into the mobo graphics or your old gpu, remove the current gpu, then un-install the current drivers, install the older drivers, then swap the cards back out.

If you manage to get back to the desktop, right click on computer, click properties, go to device manager (should be on left hand side), go to display adapters, click on the R9 290x and than go over to where you can see the driver version and click "Roll back driver".

rma the thing, its seems like / most likely is an issue with the card itself if youve tried your other card and everything works dandy fine. unless it is a driver issue :P

Either send your card back for an RMA or use the beta driver Catalyst 14.9.1

I had the exact same problem with my MSI 290X Lightning, took it back for RMA. Got a new card but the problem was still there. AMD has released the normal driver 14.9 and the beta driver with a fix for the black screen which is 14.9.1

You can wait until the 14.9.1 is out of beta or use the 14.9 driver or continue to use 14.4. Try with all 3 drivers before you RMA the card because I had to wait a while before my new card came because of the amount of people trying to send there cards back at the same time.

Safe mode booting will help with instability when installing the drivers, just make sure that all other drivers are uninstalled before trying to install new ones.

Hope this helps

14.4 is installed. 20 min of running it and no black screen. Thank you for all the help.

Would it hurt to run a stress test?

No I personally don't think so. AMD released a broken Catalyst driver which was 14.9 and they told users to go back to 14.4 so you should be good for playing games and what.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT
