Well with no-name PSUs the people who buy them are usually replacing OEM PSUs and stuff so they never really have any load put on them. I do hear of some failing after a few months but it's not a firey explosion or anything, the PSU just stops working.

It's always a better idea to spend more money and get a PSU that's known to be decent quality. Even my PSU (Thermaltake TR2) is garbage

Desktop: Intel Core i5 2380P (2400 w/o iGPU), MSI H61, 8GB RAM, 256GB SP610, 500GB WD Blue, HIS R9 280, Antec TruePower Classic 550W, Inwin MANA 134, QNIX QX2710, CM QuickFire Rapid, Logitech G402

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite L40D, AMD A6-6310, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Radeon R4 Graphics, 14" 1366x768

Phone: iPhone 6 Space Gray 64GB, T-Mobile $60/mo 3GB plan

I've got a 700W Dynamics one with me... Bad efficiency (around 60%) and bad delivery (PC shuts off during heavy gaming sessions after I put in my 260X)... I'd say actual wattage is around 400W... Cables are really short and it's lighter than a paperweight...

Still works though...

I also had an old CDRKing 450W PSU... Same story, only older...

Try jonnyGuru's Gutless Wonder series...

Corsair

Cooler Master

Thermaltake

Not all Corsair, Cooler Master, and Thermaltake power supplies are good. My ThermalTake TR2 is crap. Don't look for a power supply based on the brand, look for a power supply based on the OEM (the actual company that makes the power supply). @asim1999

Usually accurate enough to assume a no-name power supply can deliver half the wattage on the sticker. So if it says 700W, I would take it as a 350W

I'm using a really cheap Dynex 550W power supply from Best Buy in my little brother's computer running an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T on an HP OEM motherboard with an XFX Radeon HD 6770. It's been running fine for almost 3 years now without failure. It might just be that I'm really lucky.

Pretty much that... I'm still keeping it as a backup PSU though...

iirc some Dynex PSUs were HuntKeys with inflated labels

Interesting. By "infalted labels" do you mean rebrand? How good are HuntKey PSUs, because I've honestly never heard of them until now.

I ran a 500w ace power supply in my computer once.. and it actually worked as it should. And then i realised it was worth about the same as a pen, so i bought a good one. But it still works perfectly.

Oh dear. So then I assume that an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T 9Stock 2.7; 110 TDP) and an HD 6770 (150 TDP) doesn't max out the power supply. That's good. We'll see how much loner it lasts.

Yup, I had a cheap "600W" for like 2-3 years and no problems.

The funny thing is that the psu I had appears in this video xD
