If it can handle a 760 it can handle a 980. The 980 actually uses slightly less power.

So why are we so impressed by the GTX980 when it's roughly the same as a GTX780Ti? 150W less power draw at the wall. That's frankly incredible.

To put that into perspective, if only a million GTX780Ti owners changed to a GTX980, we'd save 150 Million Watts in power. Which is one and a half times the output of SHAMS 1, the largest Solar Power plant in on Earth.

550W is more than enough for a single card config.

voltage =/= wattage

But is ok.

ofc it can handle the 980 if now it powers a 760. the psu is very good since the OEM is super flower

^ These.

In real world usage, power consumption of 760 and 980 are practically identical.

It'll work but I still recommend an upgrade to something like ~600W

what for? a good 600W psu can run a system with 2x gtx 980 in SLI and has lots of room to spare for overclock

I'm well aware, i was just illustrating that the whole power draw is much less than the max power the power supply can handle.

Depends on what GTX 980 you pick. The reference model only uses 2 x 6 pins (Your psu has these).

If you are buying a custom model  from eg Asus, Gigabyte or MSI, it might require more power in the form of 2 x 8 pins . (Your PSU does not have these 2 connectors, from what i can see on the Amazon page.)
