CPU upgrade choice can't pick!

Ariona

Okay sooo I finally got my GTX 970 about 3 weeks ago and I love it it's a god at most games Buuuuuuut.... I have another issue causing problems.

My CPU is bottlenecking my GPU on some games....

Example: Skyrim on ultra with Ewi's ultra ini's won't hit a consistent 60+ in whiterun. My average FPS is 30-40 in whiterun and even with the 18GB ultimate texture mod pack, It's still about the same... In doors I get a solid 60 with dips to 55 at most.

I'm confused because this CPU has a good overall rating and a few benchmarks show it running skyrim with a 770 getting 140fps average at 1080p.

I'm confused and looking for help to see if there's anything I could do to help my performance any, But I'm also preparing to upgrade.

The upgrade options would be an MSI Z97 MB + a Devil's canyon 4690K

OR

Upgrade my 6350 to the 8350.

Other games I get issues in is Far Cry 3, AC4 is a dreadful game on ultra with FXAA only and dipping down to even 23FPS

And yet games like Watch dogs and Metro work FANTASTICLY

WD getting no less than 47 with the Worsemod  and Metro at ultra settings no less than 55FPS.

System~

MB: HP Angelica 2 by Gigabyte

CPU: AMD FX 6350 Black @3.9GHz

GPU: EVGA GTX ACX SC 970

RAM: 10GBs 1600MHz 2x4GBs in dual channel + 1x2GB

OS: Win7 64bit Ultimate

thanks for the help in advance and let me know if you need more info!

Okay well, Why? What's the dif between the 8350 and the i5 ?  the 8350 would be a cheaper option. 150 compared to 450$ USD

About 100% in applications that don't use more than 4 cores (i.e. 99% of them).

I'd grab i5 4460 + decent B85 board if you're not interested in overclocking.

I'm not but my priority is energy efficiency and cooling. Tis why I waited for forever to get the 970 <3

Then you'll definitely want an i5.

I know I know.... just...the cost... I was so hoping to get a PS4 for Bloodborne...and were finally seeing OK and good games on consoles.... Urraaagghh

i5 4460 + B85 shouldn't be any more expensive than 8350 + 990FX-UD3

Games require strong cores, not many weak ones.

Buy an i5, this is your best option.  Even the FX8 is going to bottleneck your 970 in Skyrim.

Well if you do go the Intel platform it would be silly not too.
