Windows Storage Pool

Go to solution Solved by wpirobotbuilder,

Migrating to parity RAID from non-parity RAID on the same drives isn't usually supported. You can go from RAID 1 to RAID 10 pretty easily, and (I think) you can go from a two-way mirror to a three-way mirror depending on the system in question.

You'll have to build a new RAID 5, copy your data over, and then delete the RAID 1.

Does anyone know if its possible to start with one drive in a pool and then add more to it?

Start by making it have raid 1 with a second disk then go to raid 5 with a third disk.

Thinking of building a home NAS with windows Server but I don't have enough to buy 3 WD reds in one go. Only one.

You would need to reformat everything to set up a new raid type.

Yeah I was thinking that, I got a 2TB in one of my PC's I can use while I transfer it I guess. wasn't sure if it was possible.

Is it possible to then add to the 3 drive pool?

Im not that familiar with the high-end raid 5,6,10 setups, someone else will have to answer that.

But if you move the files to your 2TB drive, format all the other drive and set up raid 5, then move the files back that would work fine. Not too sure about adding drives to the raid though...
