I'm using my mouse (logitech g502 proteus core) on a wooden desk.

should i consider buying a mousepad or not ? does it make a lot of difference?

thanks in advance

Just get a cheap mousepad from literally anywhere, It will make a huge difference

You don't need one but it's nicer. Once I got used to a nice gaming mousepad I rarely use my mouse without it. Razer has a nice line of hard pads at the moment.

I like the logitech thin ones, they work really well

It should track fine over wood but it might not be working to 100%, it also glides much nicer

Umm no. Preferably go with a gaming brand or gaming oriented product and normal "mousepads" are just so so horrible and fall apart oh so quick.

Personally I use a Hard surface one from corsair, I just like the consistency of it more than anything.
