Is it worth getting a 120Hz or 144Hz monitor?

I find 90fps is the sweet spot on a 120/144hz monitor, any lower its pointless. What im saying is on more demanding games i much preferred getting restricting the max fps and getting a solid 90 fps than getting it running upto 120 but dipping all the time.
Consistency is greater than maximums.
