Best Wireless headphones

Go to solution Solved by JohnnyGrey,

I have the g930's as well, and have been using them for over two years. They do have some little "bugs" and quirks to them that you have to get used to, but are great nonetheless. The bass is pretty decent once you consider they are powered by the battery. After over two years of near-daily use, the faux leather over each ear cup is starting to tear, as well as the faux leather on the inside of the headband.

This is a copy and paste of my Newegg Review on the g930, posted last November:

Pros: - Decent battery life
- Excellent overall sound quality
- Decent range, can walk to garage and maintain signal (35 feet, multiple walls)
- Programmable Macro buttons
- Two ways to mute mic: flip it up, or dedicated mute button next to volume wheel
- Volume wheel controls system level, not some proprietary driver setting
- Extremely comfortable
- Mic quality is exceptional
- Pretty durable. The actual swivel hinges are steel (although housed in a plastic casing) so the hinges themselves are unlikely to break

Cons: - Unit will not turn on if charging plug is inserted. Maybe it's just mine. In order to turn on, must remove plug, turn on, then quickly reinsert plug.
- Randomly drops signal for 3-5 seconds (common problem), regardless of range.
- After two years, the padding is starting to rip.
- Some driver versions are terrible (not sure if recently fixed) I've been intentionally using a very old driver version, although this old version has been crashing on my new build.
- Too much bass too loud will cause some distortion. These aren't 1000 watt subwoofers, don't expect them to sound like them.

***Major con: My base station was defective from day one, requiring me to plug USB transmitter directly into a USB port. More than 6 months into ownership, I decided to disassemble the base station and discovered that the two data wires were soldered onto the inside of the female USB plug in reverse. PC was able to detect "something" plugged in, but failed to get beyond that. I re-soldered the wires the correct way and now it works.***

Other Thoughts: (ordered from NewEgg on 11/21/2010, putting ownership at just under two years.

Overall an excellent buy. No wireless technology is perfect, so occasional disconnects aren't a bust for me.

- Disassembling the base station allowed me to discover that the charging cord cannot act as a data cable for devices, such as phones, however it will still charge. Only the two power wires from a USB connector reach the end of the cord, not the data wires.

Over the past couple of months I've had one pair of headphones die and another one on their way, thanks to the cable coiling around it self and stuffing up the connection from the edges. And the ones I'm using at the moment ain't fairing any better (Turtle beaches Px21) I got them cheap that's the only reason for using them. Now the cable for them is starting to coil really badly causing some issues and they are too small for my ears.

I'm looking for headphones up to about $200 au. Mainly used for gaming and music, I prefer closed type but I've been looking for some and most are uncomfortable. I would prefer a mic built in but there doesn't have to be one.

The only thing is I'm fed up of wires and looking at wireless headsets. I've looked at the Corsair Vengeance 2000, I've seen good things about them, but all I hear is that the plastic is not very strong and cracks easily.

Any recommendation?

I have heard about the dropping of signal problem but it has never once happened to me..Maybe i got a good pair..

perhaps I grabbed a bad pair of g930's to test for a few minutes as well but my impressions of its sound was not that great.

I have the corsair vengeance 2000 bought it june/july last year I use them almost daily. and have broken 4 sets already. while shit breaking is unacceptable, their RMA is so painless that its not a big deal to me.

out of those 4 headsets I get 0 dropouts I can use my wireless router as a pillow and not have any interference. audio shares the characteristic of other big bass headphones. boomy low end with somewhat veiled mids overall not that bad and not very far away from my ath m50 if it wasn't for the breaking headband these things would be awesome.

for FPS games these fare as well as other turtle beach headsets I've had... alright but not as detailed and capable of pinpointing where sounds come from in a 3d soundscape well at least compared to an ath ad700

people think a wireless headset would be staticy and full of drops but the corsairs don't its just too bad they break so easily.

I tried the Corsairs first but they felt really cheap to me..Glad i did not buy them as i would have broke 6 already..As with the g930s its either hit or miss..But alot of it was the drivers they were using end of last year..As they fixed most dropping issues with the new drivers..I am very lucky i guess cause it has never drop signal..And the sound for me while playing BF3 i can tell exactly where the footsteps are coming from..I think the ven 2000 with the 50mm drivers are more low end where as the 40mm drivers in the g930s help more with footsteps and such..

Either way i love my g930s and i don't think you can go wrong with them or the VEN 2000s... :)
