I'm looking to buy 2 780 evga SC acx, but I have a surround setup right now, I see that the current 780's only have 3gb of VRAM, and they have 770's right now with 4gb, should I use my loaner gt610 while I wait for the 5gb version of 780 to come out?  Or should I buy 2 770 gigabyte 4gb cards?

I have a titan right now, but I'm looking to be able to game in 3d 5760x1080, and I really don't want to buy another titan, seeing as I'd have to wait for some money to come in first. I sold my titan (I'm waiting for paypal to tell me to ship it) and I'm waiting til this thursday to buy 2 780's or 2 770 4gb versions.

People say 3gb isn't enough for games like crysis 3 in ultra, so I'm just trying to figure out where to go next.

Any opinions?

Guess there is. Are there any plans for a 4GB version?

I read somewhere that they were going to release 5gb version, I posted on EVGA's forum in hopes of finding news sooner before I get the money to buy the cards :s

Is there any way you could wait for a bit? The 5GB 780s are coming soon, along with 770 4GBs.

Leave it to a troll to respond with something when someone already owns said product.

Yes I love the titan to death, but I'd like a little more umph for the future.

if a 660 ti solution comes in even with or outperforms the titan like that, dual 780 or dual 770 would demolish it for the same price.

Honestly I don't see NVIDIA allowing this, but they have been known to change their minds once in a while.

I'm confused as to why they made a 4gb version of the 770 then? Why would they make a lower end card have a bigger VRAM, and not have a higher tier version of the 780 aswell :/

Well for the resolutions you want, it looks like you're just going to have to wait til a version of the 770 or 780 comes out with a large enough frame buffer.

Personally i would have just kept the titan, and sat it out til you could afford another . . .  as if one doesnt actually work . . .

Get 2x 780s with the 3GB VRAM configs, as that much should be enough for running 3x 1080p monitors with most games on ultra. However, if 780s with more VRAM will be available soon, go for that! Most games like Metro 2033 LL consume more than 2.5GB of VRAM, so my guess is that within 1-1.5 years, that 3GB VRAM will not be enough and you will run out of it really quickly. If you are going for a 4GB 770, go for one with an aftermarket cooler on it. Hope this helps :)

Is there a breakdown anywhere of like an estimation of how much VRAM gets used for "said game"?

I would of kept my titan, but I didn't want to spend another 1k, I recently got a big lawsuit settlement which enabled me to buy this computer, and apparently my Mom thought it'd be a great idea to drain my bank account, because apparently my savings account where I put my money was attached to my moms bank account LOL

So until my parents pay me back, the 2 780s are in the budget lol.

I dunno, but all i know is that the wider the screen the more VRAM you need otherwise youre gonna run out, quickly. Lets face it in all reality titan was designed for resolutions such as 5760x1080, and in the future that 6GB of VRAM will be vital, especially in future games/engines.

Yea so 660ti sli wins in a couple games, but driver updates will pull the titan ahead, and seeing as titan is current gen it will only get better. plus, again future game technologies.

Ahaha, that is gutting, but could you not refund the paypal and just sit it out til your mother pays you back, i think in the future the extra VRAM will be highly beneficial for your setup/needs.

When Elric tested the 7970 Toxic 6GB card @ 2560x1600 across 3 displays, Max Payne 3(a VRAM demanding game) was using I believe more than 3GB of VRAM.

Yeah, let's just say I wasn't to happy lol. I asked her how much was in my account since she had the piece of paper with my details over by her desk, and she's like.. uhhhhhhhh ur gonna have to wait.

I raged HARD lol

I suppose I could get 2 780's now, and wait for her to start paying me back, then when 800 series comes out, replace it and watercool everything like I wanted to eventually.

I may refund and keep the titan too, not sure

Buy the single fastest GPU you can. Less power draw, no need to fool with SLI scaling and better temps. If you can afford two 780s, just get a Titan.

He already had a TITAN.

4gb 770 sli is a questionable move, paying for double the ram with a crippled bus.

3dvision doesn't use much extra vram at all (a very small amount) but it requires much more gpu grunt.

I have no idea where this '4gb 780' and '5gb 780' have come from. The bus size would mean it would be a 6gb 780, if released.

The only way you'd get a lower amount is if nvidia pulled a 660ti again.

I would highly recommend going for two 780's.

The reason the 770 has 4GB while the 780 has 3GB is because of the GK110 GPU and the memory bus, they are both completely different, which is why they call for different amounts of VRAM.

I would be really surprised if Nvidia doesn't make a 5GB version, I thought that was what they were going to do initially, but apparently they aren't. Since one GTX 780 performs nearly the same as the Titan for almost half the price, then I would much rather get two 780's and deal with the "possible" bottleneck of VRAM later down the road.

Or you can wait for the 8970 and get two 6GB cards :P

From my own personal research I noted that Battlefield 3 used more vram on my 7970 than it did on my GTX 480s in SLI. I think they work differently.
