Graphics Card Problem!

Go to solution Solved by Tripnator,

I recently picked up a Windows 7 disc but what happened is the installation is stuck at "Expanding Windows Files (0%)...." and it stood like that for about 2 hours.

from what you are saying here it could be a hard drive problem and the graphic driver is stored on a bad sector of the disk. Not 100% sure of that but might be worth scanning with hdtune.

There seems to be a problem in nephew's computer where the computer would suddenly freeze after 5 minutes of usage and would require a reboot in order to use it again, but this never worked. I am currently blaming the graphics card (not that sure) because when I tried to disable it and use the On-board graphics instead, it works fine. But when I switch to the graphics card again. It will freeze again after 5 minutes. This is a 2-year old PC and is already out-of-warranty (1 year warranty only according to my nephew). But now, my nephew refuses to use the computer as it cannot run Adobe Photoshop CS4 (the grahics card can handle Photoshop quite well). And I'm not talking about just a program freezing, I'm talking about the WHOLE SYSTEM freezing (Operating System).

Is the GPU overclocked? (can it even be overclocked?)

Try a different Graphics card, and see if that works.

Well going back through what you had just previously said, the Operating System is what is "freezing" (although I don't know how a piece of software could have a temperature).  I would suggest a clean install of the OS is a good start.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Have you physically taken the card out and tried to work on the pc?

I already took it out and everything worked fine because I tested one of my graphics card (a weaker one than the 210) and it worked fine but the interval went from 5 minutes to about 30 minutes and then freezes again.

The GPU is not overclocked. (And I don't think it can be overclocked) and I have already tried a different graphics card but instead of freezing every 5 minutes, it crashes every 30 minutes.

First thing that caught my eye was the two different RAM-modules.

Try taking the 1gb one out and see if it stops freezing

It doesn't work, but I have a question. Does it cause a conflict? Because my nephew just told me that the system was only detecting 2GB istead of 3GB.

I'm currently installing HDTune on the PC. And BTW I'm currently using his computer but with the on-board graphics.

okay the only thing i can think of is that the PCI-E slot on the motherbaord is faulty. Unless anyone else has ideas?

That's going to be a problem. I actually replaced his motherboard with a new one just 4 months ago because there was no power going to the PCI-E Slot.

The 1gb module not being detected can mean a few things, namely: It being broken or it causing a conflict.

I'd take it out even if it does not fix the problem you're having. It could be one of the causes.

If you want to find out which of the two it is. Take out the 2gb module and see if the 1gb is detected. If it is, you're having a conflict

Well, using a disk is probably the first problem...
