AMD Catalyst™ 14.9.1 Beta Driver for Windows®

Due to a small number of isolated usability issues in last week's AMD Catalyst™ 14.9 driver that were reported by end users, we are providing an updated driver that addresses those usability issues. If you are not facing any problems we recommend you continue to use the latest AMD Catalyst™ 14.9 driver which is available at www.amd.com

The AM D Catalyst™ 14.9.1 Beta Driver can be downloaded from the following links:

NOTE! This Catalyst Driver is provided "AS IS", and under the terms and conditions of the End User License Agreement provided with it.

Package Contents

The AMD Catalyst™ Software Suite, AMD Catalyst™ 14.9.1 Beta Driver contains the following:

  • AMD Catalyst™ Display Driver version 14.301.1004

If you had issues with 14.9 then this is for you. If you did not have issues with 14.9 then there is no performance change between the two as it is simply a crash/bug/stability fix.

It's best to install the drivers manually.

Wait, what exactly where the problems for 14.9 anyways?

I didn't run into any issues until my friends and I started a Wargame: Red Dragon match. I got in game, placed my FOB and CP unit, then the game froze. Tried twice.

I then uninstalled 14.9, re-installed 14.7 RC3 and it was fine after that.

It took 3 clean install attempts to get 14.9 working properly on my system.

1st: Upgrade from 14.4, horrible performance. My second card didn't work at all. FireStrike score of 6872

2nd: Removed 14.9, ran DDU to clean, installed 14.9 cleanly. Not much of an improvement, FireStrike score of 8649. Second card still having issues

3rd. Removced 14.9, ran  DDU to clean, installed 14.4. Ran FireStrike: got 10608. Got my old performance back. Then uninstalled, ran DDU to clean, and installed 14.9 for the 3rd time.

Success, FireStrike of 10763, full Crossfire, performance up in some games, and temps seemed lower.

AMD FirePro D700's. Never had an issue on 14.4, but upgrading to 14.9 killed the FirePro control centre, and effectively turned off the second card. It got stuck in low power at 150Mz :o

3rd time's the charm though, full FirePro control panel, Xfire, ECC, 10-bit support. Only issue is that with 14.9 my cards are now detected as 7900 series, despite still having full FirePro features, and control.

Supposedly crashing and instability for games and general system processes.

I'm still on 14.7, but I'll have to try these soon, I'm just too lazy to restart my machine xD

Switched from a 270x to a 280x (temp only sadly) and now BF4 wont start (it crashes when it's about to load the map) so I'm going to see if these drivers fixes that.
