I was looking at GPU's on Newegg and I saw that the gtx 700 series graphic cards when down in price because of the release of the 900 series. I wasn't looking to spend more then $350 on a new GPU. I went to look at the 780 to look at how much it dropped in price and I saw that the MSI Gaming 780 3GB was on sale for $340 including shipping and it came with a free game code for the new Borderlands game. I decided to purchase the MSI 780 to replace my MSI 660 ti which I bought when it was first released in Aug 2012. Do you think it was a good choice to buy the 780 which is a tad bit faster and a year older then the 970 or do you think it was a better choice to buy the gtx 970 which is a bit more power efficient and newer. Let me know what you guys think! Thanks for your time!  :D

Tough choice. Do you really need to get one today? If so, get the 780.

If you can wait a little bit to find a 970 in stock, I would order one of those.

You really cant go wrong with either.

it depends do you want new features and better power efficiency or more cuda cores and less vram btx the 970 and the 780 are pretty much neck and neck in performance

970 is going to be a faster card. even though they are basically the same performance wise right now, there are still going to be drivers that improve the 970's performance even further. Plus, its maxwell.

Voxel Global Illumination is currently exclusive to Nvidia's gtx 900 series, I'd definitely get that as it's a great in real-time alternative to ray-tracing lighting and will make our games look awesome.

I got the gtx 780 delivered today and I haven't opened it. I'm sending it back to Newegg over the weekend. Then I will wait for the gtx 970 to come back in stock then I will buy one. I really don't need a new GPU right now I can wait I just thought the gtx 780 was a good deal which I believe was but I would rather return it and get the gtx 970 which has new features and better power efficiency. Do you guys think MSI will release a gtx 970 lightning? Thanks for the replies and help.  :)
