What do you mean different types?

I'm going to be honest, I do know what a Processor and RAM do but I know nothing of the different types, could anyone help me out?

It's mostly architecture or Intel/ AMD.

Or just the amount the processor was nerfed/ core count.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

Here's a breakdown of the current scene and typical recommendations on LTT.

Gaming: i5 4690K + DDR3 RAM

Gaming and hyper-threaded applications like video rendering: i7 4790K + DDR3

Workstation builds: i7 5820K / 5930K / 5960X + DDR4

Non-K CPU's are offered for most CPU's and they're for people who don't want to overclock. K-type CPU's are unlocked for overclocking.

There's also AMD.. FX-8370 would be alright, the general opinion towards AMD right now is: don't buy one because games don't utilize that many cores, they have a higher TDP than Intel CPU's and lower performance-per-core scores.

what do you mean by different types

for ram there is DDR3 which works for all chipsets before X99 and DDR4 for X99 chipsets

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Intel/AMD makes x86 and x64 chips for desktops (and mobile coming soon) (intel already has a series of low performing mobile chips) Intel specializes in high

ARM, powers your smartphone, Android and iOS runs on an ARM platform.

Ram? DDR2/3/4. There are different RAM sizes, but most of the RAMs out there are DDR3 as of now.

DDR stands for "double data rate", so your hardware monitor such as CPUz will see it as half of the original clock speed.

know nothing about AMD processors so i'll focus on intel.

Intel processors have a 'K' on processors that can be overclocked which mean they are unlocked. Non-K processors aren't able to overclock (correct me if i'm wrong).

i3 series are mainly dual core, i believe.

i5 series are aimed at gaming, with four cores.

i7 are for more heavy types, such as rendering, editing etc. even though the 47xxk processors have 4 cores, they have hyperthreading which act as secondary set of cores if you like. Some of the i7 processors have 6 or even 8 cores, these have hyperthreading too, so it's aimed at anyone who has a workstation build.

As far as RAM (Random Access Memory), there are two types, DDR3 and DDR4. DDR3 works on all chipsets before X99, and DDR4 just recently came out and works on X99 chipsets.

I just explained it very detailed, but it did not want to post it and just gave me and error :S But, here are things to remember about types of CPU-s and RAM.

CPU - SINGLE & MULTI-CORE! CLOCK SPEEDS! OVERCLOCKABLE-NON OVERCLOCKABLE! x86-x64-bit!

RAM - TYPE: DDR-DDR2-DDR3-DDR4! SPEEDS: DDR2-333MHz-UP, DDR3-1333MHz-UP, DDR4-2133MHz-UP!
