Controllers for gaming?

consoleconvergence2pc

So i've been using the normally keyboard & mouse for all the games i play apart from my racing and fighting games which i have't played yet.

Should i buy a ps4 controller or an xbox one ? i've never owned an xbox but the controller felt weird to me coming from ps3 controller but thing is would the ps4 one support all games because i know the xbox one does

Just get the 360 controller.

Or if you really prefer the ps3 controller, get a logitech one.

For racing I'd suggest getting a steering wheel and pedals if you want it to be more realistic, otherwise either of the two you listed would work.

the xbox remote feels weird in the beginning coming from sony but in the long run my hands don't get as fatigued as with the ps remote. it's more comfortable for long gaming sessions from personal experience and as a personal opinion.

If you want something special the Razer Sabertooth is a cool controller. If you're on a budget pick up a 360 controller.

I prefer the ps3 controller, so I use it with motionjoy, and emulate the 360 controller.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Been using a wirelress 360 controller on my pc for couple years now best basic controller imo for pc gaming, mostly all steam controller compatible games run great on it. I know razer has a PC controller which ive heard is pretty good as well the sabertooth http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-controllers/razer-sabertooth, however its not wireless.

Playstation 4 controller all the way. Get DS4 tool (it's just an Xinput wrapper, you use officialy drivers all the time) and there are no more compatibility issues since the games see it as an Xbox 360 pad. You also have the touchpad, which can be really neat, you can just use it via bluetooth (and it doesn't interfere with any other devices) or wired and for older games the shoulder buttons actually work (there are problems with the Xbox 360 pad here). It's a bit pricey but well worth the money.

Ok. I have tried using it for about a week in my current fav games (tf2, mll, metro 2033 redux, borderlands 2, bf3/4). Movement felt very rigid every time i moved the controller, i couldn't move smoothly like i can with my mouse. I did get used to the x,y,a and b and other buttons (took about 4 days or so) but i found the keyboard-mouse combo much more easy to use and straight-forward. I would also like to point out that while i was using the controller i got significantly worse in ALL the games i tested.

Maybe i didn't use it long enough, but i got so frustrated of my bad performance in games (especially multi-player) so i switched back after a week. I got it for free from a friend anyway so i don't really care if i don't use it.

Ya that's not an argument against the 360 specifically.

I use DS4, it works flawlessly with DS4TOOL and the track pad even works as a mouse in a few games like Shadow of Mordor.

The question was "controllers for gaming?" not which "which controller should i buy?".

I simply stated that i prefer keyboard and mouse and that controllers are a waste of money for gaming, therefore answering the question.

Got the xbox360 wireless controller and also used a wired ps3 controller. Both are fine, i prefer the layout of the ps3 more (because i grew up with ps2 and ps3 before switching to pc) but i think its just because i havent got used to xbox controller.

Works great for me with steam inhome streaming, lying on the bench in front of the tv playing (singleplayer) games with pc graphics.

I really like that its wireless, the ps3 can be wireless too but you need to buy a special bluetooth adapter.

Appart from that most games are made for the xbox controller, so the ingame instructions use the xbox360 button layout.

first off, playing shooters with a controller will never feel as great as a K&M do not even attempt it, controllers are for fighters, racing games (if you don't want the steering weel), Platformers and some hack N slash games.

and yes, a week would be too little to adjust for most people, I do not recommend playing the games you mentioned on a controller at all though.

you get a program called x360ce which allows you to imitate the 360 remote on basically any controller you have for pc. (it overrides the Xinput file in the game to think said remote is a 360 remote)
