£650 Gaming PC - To Beat XB1/PS4

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum so not sure if this is the right area for this post..

But here goes! I wish to build my first gaming PC:

- No more than £650 (ish)

- Mainly to play BF4

- Preferably high/ultra settings

- Be better than Xbox One and PS4

- Do light video editing for montages/cinematics

- General web browsing and word processing

I already have speakers and a monitor.

My mouse and keyboard are Apple, so would probably need to buy gaming PC and mouse.

Oh, and I live in the UK :)

So far I have got this...

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£154.39 @ Aria PC)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  (£24.86 @ CCL Computers)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£64.74 @ Aria PC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card  (£143.00 @ Ebuyer)
Case: BitFenix Neos Black ATX Mid Tower Case  (£29.75 @ Aria PC)
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer  (£10.09 @ CCL Computers)
Other: Windows 8.1 Pro Student (£50.00)
Total: £647.46
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Can anyone give me any advice on this? Things to change?

Thank you very much!

If youre willing to spend ~20 bucks more you could do this: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/y2G3sY

You could expect a significant performance increase from this config. Heres a comparison (R9 280X is basically a HD7970)

Thank you both. Would the GTX 760 handle BF4 at high/ultra settings?

gazabi - I've contemplated SSD but have decided just to stick with Hybrid :) thanks for suggesting it tho

Looks great! I would personnaly go with a K Skew CPU and Z97, so you can get more performance via Over Clocking.

Then if your budget allows, a SSD/ 900 Series GPU.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

a 280(285) would be not that much more and performs a fair bit  better

Then he'd have to change to a Z97 board as well. Plus for a build with just a £650 budget I really wouldn't consider OCing at all.

dont be scared, you already have an aftermarket cooler in there, the hyper 212 will (in a very comfy way) provide maybe up to a 4.4 ghz OC? if you are gaming an OC cpu wont be much difference expect in games like minecraft, and metro that are very CPU intenisve. If you OC you can stomp the performance of a stock i7

Will the 4690 at stock speeds be able the handle BF4 on high/ultra with GTX 760 / R9 280x? :)

yes. But in games like mincraft and Metro, and also video editing/rendering, the OC will boost perforamance. BF4 is much more GPU intensive than CPU intensive

I might as well for just £10, just incase I need to install anything via CD one day. Or want to burn to disc :) and isn't that £15 g2a thing just an activation code? I don't actually have the windows 8.1 disk.

You can download a 8.1 iso like everywhere and burn it to disk/mount it on a USB drive. Just look around on google for a bit.

Won't that be like dodgy tho and then won't work when I come to upgrade it in the future or something?
