Sorry if this topic has been posted before but after a quick Google search I am having a hard time trying to figure out what I should but for my loop.

I understand the process of distilling and i understand the way that deionised water will aggressively pick up ions from in my loop.

I'm am just confused about distilled water, does it have the same properties and what should i buy.

Any help would be great. Thanks :3

It's never a good idea to use deionized water since like you said it can aggressive pick up ions on the loop from metallic elements on the loop, and is classified as a solvent if there is pre-longed contact of fresh deionized water with metal. It will be extremely slow but it can cause some pitting in metals, if there is a constant supply of fresh deionized water.

Distilled. Least amount of crap in it and it's cheap.

De ionized technically has less 'crap' in it, having said that there is no point, while without the electrolytes in it (aka, why it's deionized) it can be perceived as 'safer' in case of a leak (non conductive), but in reel with it doesn't realy matter if everyhting else is off anyway and it will grab ions from literaly everywhere any way (even from co2 in the air). This latter aspect of it can cause problems and also it is just more expensive.

IMHO, just distill it yourself from tap water, it's none too hard to do and is next to free if you know what you are doing.

Distilled water. Use UV disinfection light to kill any algae.

If it was distilled you wouldn't need to worry about that, I don't know of any algae that would survive the distillation process (aka, boiling off everything with a boiling point less then water, chucking that, then boiling off the water itslef, and chucking what's left).

Yeah i know what distillation is. I was just being over protective.

Least amount of crap per dollar is what I meant.

are these 2 options different from demineralized water? Thats mostly what my store here sells - I'm guessing I cant use this in my loop?

I believe they are they same - they go through various processes to remove all the minerals and such from the water.
