What is the cheapest SSD I can get for money? I want to install Linux on my rig, but don't want to partitionate my HDD for that. I completly wiped it last time I wanted to install a second OS on it and I am afraid I'll do it again.

I once had one of these, now I've got this.

Why not just use a virtual machine?

Or buy a small hard drive? Theyre cheaper than an SSD.

Cheap-EST SSD's are NOT fast.

Their instant access times are worthy of having one, but the cheaper drives are pretty craptastic for Read and Write speeds compared to 'ever so slightly' more expensive drives.

I'd choose a cheap SSD with good speeds,.... however 300MB/s read and 200Mb/s write would be my minimum spec.

There are many crippled cheap SSDs slower than this.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I agree with that, but I need a product, no theory.

When did I say that?

"I don't want to partition my HDD"

Why not use a USB flash drive? 32GB is around $20. You said you wanted the cheapest drive you could get. It's short of SSD speed but USB 3.0 isn't bad.

I wanted it to be inside the case, but now I thought over it a flash drive could be the best solution. Only the read/write speeds will be a problem.

I once had one of these, now I've got this.

I thought of 16 gigs, but I don't know if that's enough for Linux though.

here is a good one http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/a-data-internal-hard-drive-asp900s3128gmc 128 or 60 euros

128 is acutally a bit too much. I thought more of a 16-60gb SSD. Also a Samsung 840 evo only costs 4€ more than that one.

64GB performs worse than the 128GB which performs worse than 256GB....

So on and so forth... a big reason why people will always recommend a bigger capacity SSD than 128GB.

Plus its easier to manage over time.

That being said...

I have a laptop with a Sata2 60GB SSD and its still so very very fast... boots Windows like a SSD driven desktop (8-10s), Windows is noticeably (instantly even) faster in all things that used to take a bit of time.

But yeah.. 60GB is enough for Win7 + Known Apps + CAD + Games, I'm sure you can manage it as well.

the evo can only sus

With my evo I get solid 450write/500read speeds. How much faster can the adata one be?

ain those for about 2-6gb depending on how many gigs you get and it also has some firmware glitches and longevity issues the adata doen't have performance degeneration

If you're gonna install OS on a SD card or usb stick, you're gonna have a bad time.

Not only these devices are slow (no, sequential speeds mean shit with OS) in random write, they are also tuned for sequential workload, not random. As such, wearlevelling and garbage collection is much simpler, so when it has to deal with random data, it will eventually choke itself. I know, because i used to run my servers 24/7 off flash drives and it never worked right.

tl;Dr

Just get a decent 60GB+ ssd or partrition existing one (or go virtual).
