MX reds are linear non tactile light switches

MX blues are loud tactile switches (best IMHO)

MX browns are almost identical to blues except lighter and quieter

Most popular ones are the ones above

Ok so I'm looking at mechanical keyboards and have no idea what the differences between the MX switches are and would like to know to help me choose what will suit me best

Cheers for the help :D

Go out & ask a sales representive in an electronics store whether the have mechanical keyboards in-house to test. I was also going to recommend viewing the site that Oshi/iSaeko linked but yeah get a good feel for which type of key switch is your favourite :)

Red if you do a butt ton of gaming and need to rapid press those keys. Brown for lighter gaming, and blues for the same but also do a lot of typing. At least IMO from when I've used them. It's different for lots of people though.

i use blues for all my gaming, i use it because i like feeling when the key is pressed, and know that its been pressed without having to mash it all the way down

It doesn't matter if you are gaming, programming or just watching videos, they are a personal preference. That "switch for gamers" is all bs. Across different gaming keyboards you will find all type of switches.

IMO blues and browns are the best choice, that 'click' when you press the key is a wonderful experience.

I will probably get some blues when I pick up a keyboard, but then again I do a fair bit of work outside gaming, but I can see the use of them in games as it allows you to touch type.

I have Razer Blackwidow 2010 since 2010 (xD) with blue switches and it's really good for gaming and typing is so easy (ultra-easy). They have big tactile feedback and now I can't switch to red/black, because it's feelin' strange. Go for blue/browns or red/blacks. It's personal choice. There isn't "the best for gaming". It all depends on you. :)
